Port Isabel & South Padre Island, Texas

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I expect to depart here June 4th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted January 11, 2013…

Yesterday we drove the motorhome the about 50 miles from Harlingen to Port Isabel, Texas.

We spent the night parked at Wal-Mart in Port Isabel because of its convenient location. Parked at the far edge of the parking lot made for a relatively quiet night’s sleep. We’ll move on this morning to Brownsville about 25 miles distant..

Treasures Of The Gulf Museum – Port Isabel, Texas

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year.

On March 24th, we drove the Bronco 104 miles (one way) to the VA Medical Center at Livermore, California for my new eye exam which confirmed my cataract in my right eye. I was told I’m a candidate for surgery. I now await a phone call to establish an appointment for a consultation with an eye surgeon.

During my eye exam I was told that the surgery would be performed at the large Palo Alto facility near San Francisco. Just like being in the military, I am now standing in line and waiting! 🙂

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Brownsville…The Southern-Most Point in Texas.

Yesterday we drove the motorhome the about 25 miles from Port Isabel to Brownsville, Texas.

We spent the night parked at VFW Post #2085. Now that we have reached the southern-most point in Texas, at this latitude the Gulf of Mexico forces us to drive North to continue our journey. Later this morning we’ll drive the about 120 miles to Kingsville, Texas.

Brownsville is unique in that it is located at the southern-most tip of Texas and across a not-very-wide Rio Grande River lies another country…Mexico. Because Brownsville is also close to the Gulf of Mexico, it has a most interesting history. You can read its history by clicking this Wikipedia link…

As always, I like to show the view from the dinette window…

After our arrival at the VFW yesterday morning, we unhooked the Bronco and drove the about five miles to old town area of Brownsville. The museum was the kind I really like…it had lots of old black and white photos. We also visited the Stillman House (founder of Brownsville) adjacent to the museum. After another shrimp lunch we visited the Costumes of the Americas Museum. Here is the link to the Brownsville Historical Complex Museum’s website…
