Harlingen, Texas Day 19 (GA360)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I expect to depart here June 4th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort and is scheduled to be here until January 10th.

Yesterday Mary and I did some more cleaning and maintenance of the motorhome. In the afternoon we put on our Cowboy duds and went to the local American Legion Sunday Afternoon Dance…

Twice, the Shoe Police (Security Guard) told Mary she could not dance without wearing shoes. Must be a Texas State Law. Let’em dance without shoes and what next would come off??? I wonder if it’s a three-strikes-and-you’re-out (the door) law?  🙂

We had  an enjoyable time. As usual, the locals were very friendly. I was very disappointed how much my right hip hurt while dancing. Mary said she thought it was because I was wearing my Cowboy boots and I thought it was an after-effect of our May 27th, 2013 accident. Whatever…

Enjoying a Sunday afternoon dance at an American Legion deep in South Texas is another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!

Mary is arriving here today in Harlingen, Texas after an absence of 199 days. After our May 27, 2012 accident she returned to her home in California for a family reunion and started having to deal with after-effects of the accident. It will be nice having my partner back on the road with me. If you missed the accident Blog entry, you can see it by clicking this link…

Recently I published a Blog entry about the South Texas Music known as Conjunto. Remember, in Spanish, a “j” is pronounced like an “h” and so is pronounced as con-HOON-tow!

Last Saturday night I turned on the TV in the motorhome to the local PBS Station which was featuring Conjunto music. Because video gobbles up many megabytes in a hurry, I recorded only this short video which you may view by clicking this link…

In Mexico this type of music is called Banda. It is also similar to the Cajun Music we experienced in Southern Louisiana in 2010. We are currently expecting to experience Mardi Gras this year in Lake Charles, Louisiana and remain in Louisiana until about the end of March. Until then we’ll be surrounded by this beautiful music. It’s a lousy job. but someone’s got to do it!!!!  🙂

Harlingen, Texas – Day 8

Mary is at home in California enjoying the holidays with her family. She has made her airline reservations to join me here at Harlingen, Texas on January 3, 2013.

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort and is scheduled to be here until January 10th. While I await Mary’s arrival on the 3rd, I’ll be seeing some local attractions, performing repairs and preventative maintenance on both the motorhome and Bronco, plus thoroughly cleaning both vehicles.

A few days ago I drove the Bronco the about 12 miles to San Benito, Texas, to visit the Museums of San Benito…three museums in one building. Yesterday I reviewed the Freddy Fender Museum. Today’s topic is the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

The Museums of San Benito house three different museums. Here’s the link…

Deep in South Texas, the region, food, people and music are all called Tex-Mex. A delightful blend of Texas and Mexican cultures. The music is called Conjunto and you can read about it in this link…(Be sure to click the video button and then the related video buttons to hear a nice selection of this music)
