Christmas Dinner At VFW Post #8242 – Yuma, Arizona

The motorhome is now parked at the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven, California. Less than 1/2 mile away is the Colorado River and on the other side…the sunniest place on Earth…Yuma, Arizona. I’m here hanging out and enjoying the nice weather. I have several friends in the area. Mary is now expecting to rejoin me here in later January.

Yesterday I drove 12 miles north of Yuma to VFW Post #8242 for Christmas dinner.

My ex-Singles RV group (WIN – Wandering Individuals Network) has parked here for a number of years during the Christmas/New Year’s Day period. They are here now so I’ve had a chance to see some old friends even though I’ve elected not to join their gathering. Another reason RVers like this spot is because, daily, the VFW has a band from 2 to 6 PM, that plays good old country and western music that draws a good crowd. In addition, on Christmas Day, the VFW hosts a great meal of ham and all the fixings for only a $5 donation or for free if you brought a dish. I paid the $5 because I do not like to cook. They also have a similar meal on New Year’s Day. I got to say hello to a number of the WINs that I’ve known over the years. I belonged to the group from 1997 to 2006.

Here’s a photo of the WIN parking area. The yellow line shows my parking place when I parked here several years ago…

I no longer park here because it’s crowded, dusty and noisy. The railroad tracks are directly across the highway and they run all night long. In addition a crop dusting plane flies all night long in this area. Also I tend to get a nasty sinus infection from the chemicals spewed by the crop dusting plane.

Here’s a photo I took at sunrise while parked here several years ago…

Here are yesterday’s sunrise and sunset photos from my current parking location at the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven, California…

Yesterday was a cloudy/breezy day at 65 degrees.  Forecast for today is sunny and 60 degrees.

The red dot on the below map shows our approximate location in the State of California. You may double left-click the map to make it larger…

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!
