The motorhome is parked in Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’m scheduled to depart here June 2nd.

Seven years ago yesterday, Memorial Day was on May 27, 2012. A day I would prefer not to remember…

This first photo shows the scene of the accident Mary and I were involved in the very remote corner of northeast Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Canyon de Chelly National Monument. It took rescuers more than an hour to dig all people trapped under the truck. Because of the remoteness of the area, it was more than three hours before the arrival of the first rescue helicopters…

I took this second photo while trapped under the truck. A body can be seen caught between the seats. Because of the shock impact of the landing and dirt, my camera lens is only partially open. It stopped working completely shortly thereafter. The floor of the truck is now over my head…

If you are not familiar with the details regarding the accident, you can read all about it by clicking this link… http://wp.me/pDCku-4HZ

Seven years later we are still dealing with the after-effects. In my case, I continue having a constant, mild burning in my right rib age area. It does not go away…it’s there to remind me every day.

Originally we thought that I was the more injured of Mary and myself. But time has proven that Mary was more injured than myself. Since the accident she has been seeing a myriad of doctors for a variety of issues. We are now uncertain how many of her ailments are from the accident or just plain old age.  🙂

I’m not one to live in the past, but this accident was a very emotional, physical, mental and psychological trauma event. One person died at the scene and several others were severely and critically injured. It’s a happening not easily forgotten.

Forecast for today is mostly cloudy and 59 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

33 Years Of Service…

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I’ll depart here later this morning.

About a week ago the Bronco started running a little warmer than usual. Fortunately I was still in Yuma where I had access to my favorite mechanic. Since then I have replaced the oxygen sensor, water pump, fan and radiator….all factory original from 33 years ago! Simply amazing.

After that length of service, I have no grudges about spending a few bucks to replace them. Vehicles are simply nothing more than electrical and mechanical devices. They work hard and occasionally a part needs to be replaced. I do so with happily hoping I’ll get another 33 years of service.

Hmmmm… let’s see, if that happens I’ll be 111 years old!  🙂

Here’s a few photos….

Iron Mountain, Michigan Day 2 (GA592)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I’ll depart here March 4th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted August 27, 2013…

The motorhome is still parked at Elks Lodge #700 in Iron Mountain, Michigan.

The saga of our electrical connections problem from the motorhome to the Bronco continues. First thing yesterday morning we arrived at Scotty’s electrical repair shop. Tony, the owner, told us the best he could do was an appointment at 3:00 PM. Since he’s the only guy in the area that does this kind of work, we reluctantly agreed.

From there we went to the East G Street location where Mary lived at about age ten. She said although the house looks nothing like she remembers it, it most likely is the one in which her family lived…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

001

From there to grocery shopping…to gassing up the motorhome and filling up with fresh water…to doing laundry.

Then back to Scotty’s where he told me I had managed to wire both sides of the connection incorrectly. In an earlier Blog entry I’ve admitted, I’ve had no formal training in automotive electrics, plus without wiring diagrams or the proper test equipment…the odds were against me. Nonetheless, I thought I had been really careful taking the old assemblies apart and thought I put together the new assemblies in the same manner. Apparently not!

Having no other choice we left the Bronco and connector cable at Scotty’s. Tony told us that they might possibly be ready tomorrow (meaning today) afternoon or at the latest on Wednesday. Back we went in the motorhome with no Bronco attached to the Elks Club where we spent another night. So here we sit and wait. I expect we’ll do some more sight-seeing today while waiting for the repairs to be completed.

Yesterday was another horrendous weather day…96 degrees with high humidity. Another scorcher is forecast for today.. 88 degrees with a real feel of 102. At 5:00 AM this morning it was 75 degrees with 74% humidity. YUK!

Enjoying visiting places where you lived years ago is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

My New Verizon 8800L Jetpack…

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I’ll depart here March 4th.

My new Verizon 8800L Jet pack arrived on Thursday.

My old Verizon 791L Jetpack was 3.5 years old and since my arrival in Yuma, AZ on December 20, 2018 had been struggling with Internet signals. Talking with Verizon support personnel informed me that my primary problem was congested cell towers. Normally fine for the about 80,000 population, the problem becomes the additional 80,000 winter snowbirds, including myself.  🙂 The towers become overworked and Internet signal problems result, eg: slow loading and buffering on videos.

The new Verizon 8800L Jetpack promises faster speeds and stronger signals because it has many more channels than the 791L.

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

My old 791L was Velcroed to the internal antenna of my WeBoost amplifying system which includes a rooftop antenna…

Here’s the box the new device came in…

And here’s the new device Velcroed in the same location…

In the about 36 hours I’ve had the device, I must say I am most pleased with its operation so far. It was extremely easy to set up and the Internet signal seems noticeably faster and stronger…so far…so good. Let’s hope it continues in this manner.

An added plus, Verizon is giving me a $33 trade-in on my 791L.  🙂

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 45 miles from Bark River to Iron Mountain, Michigan. Mary lived in this area at about the age of ten.

Along the way we stopped at the home of the world’s largest pasty. You can read all about this place by clicking this link… http://pastys.com/

Here are some of the photos that I took…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

004

They are big…

005

Here’s what they look like inside. Full of beef, potatoes and onion…

007

Seasoned lightly with salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and ketchup are they are ready to be eaten…

008

In Iron Mountain the afternoon temperature hit 91 degrees…feel like 96. We found a shady spot to hide under for a couple of hours. We read while the air conditioner brought the 94 degrees inside the motorhome to a livable 80 degrees…

011

About 5:00 PM, We moved to Elks Lodge #700 which was closed, but we parked there for the night any ways…

012

Here’s the usual dinette window photo…

017

Today we hope to get our motorhome to Bronco electrical problems resolved. Then visit a couple of old Mary’s haunts, do laundry, then move on down the road.

Another scorcher is forecast for today.. 92 degrees with a real feel of 102. At 4:00 AM it was 80 degrees with 64% humidity. YUK!
