One Year Ago Today… (Published 5/27/13)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I’m planning to depart November 26th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted May 27, 2013…

Happy Memorial Day. Freedom is not free. If you love your freedom…thank a Vet!

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Hershey RV Resort in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. We expect to depart tomorrow morning.

One year ago today at about 12:45 PM in Canyon de Chelly in remote northeastern Arizona, Mary and I survived a terrible accident.

Neither of us are the same person as before the accident…we move a lot slower now.

I remain suffering from a still slightly swollen rib cage with a constant mild burning sensation. In addition I suffer with a mild constant pain in my right hip. Mary is still suffering from an assortment of items including headaches, sore neck, back and hip. One person was killed at the scene and several were severely injured.

Here are a few of the photos that you will see in the below Blog entries…

As much as I hate the thought…I expect all future Memorial Day weekends will find me reliving the horrific accident at Canyon de Chelly in 2012. On the other hand, I can be thankful that Mary and I did in fact survive that terrible accident and live to tell about it. Like it says on my Bronco license plate…1DAAT…One Day At A Time! It’s the only way to go.

Enjoying traveling with no accidents is another joy of the full-timing lifestyle!

Six Years Ago Today…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I expect to depart here June 4th.

Six years ago today, Memorial Day was on May 27, 2012. A day I would prefer not to remember…

This first photo shows the scene of the accident Mary an I were involved in the very remote corner of northeast Arizona on the Navajo Indian Reservation at Canyon de Chelly National Monument. It took rescuers more than an hour to dig all people trapped under the truck. Because of the remoteness of the area, it was more than three hours before the arrival of the first rescue helicopters…

I took this second photo while trapped under the truck. A body can be seen caught between the seats. Because of the shock impact of the landing and dirt, my camera lens is only partially open. It stopped working completely shortly thereafter. The floor of the truck is now over my head…

If you are not familiar with the details regarding the accident, you can read all about it by clicking this link… http://wp.me/pDCku-4HZ

Six years later we are still dealing with the after-effects. In my case, I continue having a constant, mild burning in my right rib age area. It does not go away…it’s there to remind me every day.

Originally we thought that I was the more injured of Mary and myself. But time has proven that Mary was more injured than myself. Since the accident she has been seeing a myriad of doctors for a variety of issues. We are now uncertain how many of her ailments are from the accident or just plain old age.  🙂

I’m not one to live in the past, but this accident was a very emotional, physical, mental and psychological trauma event. One person died at the scene and several others were severely and critically injured. It’s a happening not easily forgotten.

Forecast for today is sunny and 71 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

I Visit Wayne The Vampire!…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,500+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 155 miles from Yuma, Arizona to Palm Desert, California.

Along the way, I stopped at Slab City for a brief parts replacement. I’ve blogged Slab City many times. To read about this very unique place, simply put Slab City in your Internet search box and you will get a bunch of items to see.

I stopped to see a good RV mechanic who has been wintering in Slab City for 35 years. Wayne the Vampire is 72 years old, but as he says,  “Time is unimportant to a Vampire!”  🙂

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Despite his looks, he’s really good at what he does. My black water (toilet) waste valve was giving me problems. Every time I took the cap off, I’d get a couple of cups worth of liquid goo. Not good! Slab City was the right place to get the job done for a reasonable price of $40. As long as I was dissembling the waste discharge unit, I replaced the gray water valve as well. Since my accident in 2012, I no longer crawl under vehicles. Hence, Wayne the Vampire…

These are the parts and where they go…

Recently I came across this video featuring Wayne the Vampire  🙂 …

I did not know he is a famous movie star!  🙂

I’m now parked at Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort…about 20 miles east of Palm Springs.

My 1986 Ford Bronco II Re-Paint Job Is Finally Finished…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,500+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at American Legion Post #19 in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to depart here later this morning.

Several days ago I reported that I had made arrangements to have my towed Ford Bronco II repainted. It went into the shop Monday February 12th. It came put of the shop Tuesday afternoon…a total of 16 days. It took a little longer than I was hoping, but they did a nice job and it’s looking good!

Yesterday I returned to the shop for an engine wash and a wax job.

The photos below show the final product.

The colors are Medium Dark Fire Red (an original factory color) and Medium Dark Desert Tan (specially blended to match the spare wheel tire cover color).

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Here’s the really good new… the entire job costs only $1,000. Prior to committing to the project I had two additional estimates of $5,500 and $3,800 proving the most expensive is not always the best way to go.

I also had new shocks installed and greased the front wheel bearings.

Now it looks as great as it runs. Looking good for a 32 year-old vehicle!

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Forecast for today is sunny and 69 degrees.

Lubbock, Texas Day 1 (GA288)

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 45 miles from Littlefield to Lubbock, Texas. Once again continuing southeast in the morning hours has one driving directly into the sun. This condition makes it extremely difficult to read the road signs when you are in an unfamiliar area…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The motorhome is now parked at Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee #4271 about eight miles south of downtown Lubbock. I’m parked on the side of the building where I’m plugged into electricity…

As always I like to show the view from the dinette window…

Lubbock is the birthplace of Buddy Holly. I’ll begin my explorations of Lubbock today. I expect to be here for several days..

Sealant And Roku…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,500+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at American Legion Post #19 in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to depart here March 1st.

My Bronco repaint frustrations continue. Went to pick it up Friday night. It would not start. Put on battery charger. Shop closed for the weekend.  Yesterday morning, back to the shop. Still would not start. Later in the day I was told problem was a bad ground cable which has now been replaced.

If I had been able to get it Friday night, I had planned to bring it back on Monday anyways. I had told the paint technician to make sure he did a good job of sealing ,my moon-roof, as I had some occasional leaking problems in the past.. He did such a good job, that in the process he inadvertently sealed the window shut, BUT IT’S DESIGNED TO ABLE TO BE OPENED  BY AN INTERNAL HAND CRANK!…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

So, now he has to remove the sealant on the window so it can be opened, which I use all the time.

In addition a few miscellaneous items, still need to be accomplished such as an additional paint stripe, installation of door edge guards and installation of my new nerf step bars. I was told on the phone at 2:30 PM yesterday, that it should be ready by 10 AM this morning. So, once again this morning and with all fingers crossed, hopefully will finally get my Bronco back today.

My friend Colorado who lives here in Yuma has been driving me back and forth to the paint shop. I got to telling him about my Roku device for your TV set where you can what you want, when you want, with no commercials…

So  we went to Wal-Mart where he bought that same unit as mine. We then went back to his place and I installed it at his home.

You can read all about my Roku install by clicking this link…
