The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Conner, Washington. I’m scheduled to depart here July 9th.

Today… A trip down memory lane!

2004 Central America trip…

This trip ended up being 343 days and 16,000+ miles through the back-country of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 11 rigs started the trip, within a week we broke into three smaller groups for ease of traveling. Only myself and one other rig went the full, pre-planned route. All the others dropped out for various reasons. All returned safely to the United States. I’m planning to show these photos, more or less, 10 a day, whenever I’m not doing something else deserving a blog entry. FINALLY, it must be remembered these photos are prior to my switching to digital in 2006. The films were developed during our trip and the lack of quality control sometimes is plainly evident.

Mt. Baker, Washington – Day 3

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Birch Bay RV Resort in Blaine, Washington. This location marks the furthest northern most point of our planned 2014 travels. I’ve been here several times over the years and always enjoy the area. We will depart from here tomorrow.

Three days ago I drove the Bronco from Birch Bay to Mt. Baker so we could do some photography. We departed at 8:30 AM and returned at 4:30 PM traveling a total of 146 miles. We drove to the end of the road which is at Artists Peak, elevation 5,220 feet.

Cloudy skies provided harsh mid-day overhead lighting conditions which causes a washed-out look…definitely a poor photographic situation, but…such is life!

The below Google earth image shows the area with the X marking our camping location…

I’m Back In…

one of my favorite RV parks…Thousand Trails Thunderbird in Monroe, Washington…in what I consider to be the best camping spot in the park. When I arrived here last Monday morning (July 4th) some one else was parked in this spot…of all the nerve! Their park  pass, which is required to be visible for the park rangers to see easily as they drive by in their golf carts, indicated a departure date of July 9th. But, as I headed out for my yesterday’s morning walk, lo and behold…they were gone…apparently leaving early. So I moved quickly to re-gain MY spot.

Unseen in this photo, because of dark shadows created by yesterday’s bright sun, directly in the back of the motorhome is the beautiful Skykomish River.

This is a beautiful park only 5.5 miles from downtown Monroe. When I was here three weeks ago I also was located in this spot. I did several Blog entries showing a number of photos of this park. If you’re interested they can be seen by looking back about that time frame in this blog.

Despite the weather being three degrees too hot yesterday…it was 78…and I like it between 65 and 75 degrees…there was a delightful breeze of about 10 miles per hour coming along the river while I sat in the shade and read my current book…River Horse by William Least Heat-Moon.

As I’ve said a number of times in the past…it’s a lousy job, but some one’s got to do it! 🙂
