3 Miles Beyond The End Of The World…

That’s according to this cute little sign we saw in the Ajo, Arizona Museum. Here’s the proof…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

We spent our second night at VFW Post #3578 where they have a very nice veterans memorial in front of their building. Three separate memorial gravestones list the names of those from Ajo who lost their lives in World War II, Vietnam and Korea. Yesterday was chili cook-off day. At 7:00 AM I was outside helping the men set up tents and tables for the event while Mary went inside to help the women cook…

Later in the morning we wandered around the downtown plaza area…

A very huge part of Ajo’s history revolves around the big open-pit copper mine which has been closed for some time…

This Google Earth view of Ajo shows why the mine played such a large part on Ajo’s history…

Then we went for about a one hour visit at the Ajo Museum where a very knowledgeable docent did a wonderful job of telling us about the mine…

And other interesting facts about Ajo’s history…

Then back to the VFW Post for lots of chili! We sampled the five different competitor’s entries and because I’m an ex-quality control engineer…I picked the ultimate winner. Mary chose some one other than my selection. In addition there was a salsa challenge, an open auction, a silent auction and musical entertainment. Everyone was very friendly and we had an enjoyable time.

Later this morning we’ll head about 40 miles south to Organ Pipe National Monument. That means we’ll be out in the toolies…which means a questionable Internet signal. If you do not hear from us for several days…not to worry.

No One Sees The World Quite Like A…

Photographer!

When you are photographer…beauty is everywhere. We see things that most folks who are not into photography walk right by and never know that they missed it. Today’s blog entry is a great example.

Since Mary is away babysitting two of her grandsons and most of my chores have been completed…I find myself with lots of time on my hands.

So yesterday I assigned myself a 15 minute photography assignment…wander around Mary’s yard for 15 minutes and come back with 15 photos. You may click on them to see an enlarged view.

Here are the results…

There are literally hundreds of photographs waiting to be taken within the range of a circle of 100 feet radius. They’re everywhere…they’re everywhere! And lucky me…I get to see them whenever I desire!

No matter where I travel with the RV and Bronco…this statement essentially remains true.

14 days until my departure to the warm and sunny south land.
