Wimer, Oregon To Anderson, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 188 miles from Wimer, Oregon to Anderson California.

I’m expecting to arrive at Mary’s home in central California, tomorrow and depart November 30th. While there, I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and major cleaning of the Bronco and motorhome.

Today’s Subject…Anderson, California…

Along the way yesterday, I stopped at Medford, Oregon. About two weeks ago, my power step stopped working. Yeah, I was already planning to get a new step mat. For the time being, I was able to push/pull it by hand…

I got on the phone to Fleetwood (motorhome manufacturer) and ordered the new step from them. I had it delivered to Mike’s RV Service in Medford as I knew I would be passing through there on my way to Mary’s place. I arrived at 8 AM yesterday morning and they were ready for the install…

This is what the underside of the step looks like in case you were wondering. After 10 years, the gearbox gave up…

After one hour, the new step and mat had been installed and I was on the road again…

Along the way I passed Lake Shasta. According to a local the newspaper is saying it’s down 135 feet due to the drought…

Arriving at Anderson, I parked in the back of VFW Post #9650 where they have a 30 amp electrical outlet so I could run my air-conditioning…

Yesterday was 97 degrees! YUK! Normally I would not be this far south, this early in the fall season. On October 4th, Mary turned 75 years old and her family is having a 75th birthday party for her this Saturday…and I told her I would be there. So, here I am in this horrible heat which is supposed to break in the next couple of days. I’ll spend tonight at Nicolaus, California and arrive at Mary’s home on Thursday.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny and 97 degrees. Forecast for destination today is sunny and 92 degrees.

Many years ago when I was a boy of 12, my father brought me deer hunting. I never shot one…I just could not pull the trigger on these beautiful animals. I once shot a bird and it made me sick afterwards. Today, I do all my hunting with a camera…

Awning Cleaning Day…

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s second home at Wimer, Oregon. I’ll depart from here tomorrow.

I’m expecting to arrive at Mary’s home in central California, October 15th and depart November 30th. While there, I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and major cleaning of the Bronco and motorhome.

Today’s Subject…Awning Cleaning Day…

I like to do things when they are convenient to do…it just lessens the effort associated with the job. For instance, if it’s too hot or too cold…the job can wait for another day. Fortunately most of my cleaning and maintenance associated with the motorhome fall in that category.

I tend not to use  the awning when Mary is not with me. Over time dust, dirt, tree sap, bird poop, etc… tends to accumulate. Rain or just hosing the awning does not remove these items.

Yesterday was just right for cleaning the awning. The motorhome was far enough from Mary’s home that I did not need to move it, the awning was in the shade as preferred by the cleaner instructions, the hose was right there and the temperature was a delightful 72 degrees. Time to do the deed!

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Just enough room to open the awning…
DSC07845
Fortunately, Mary had a brand new sprayer in her storage shed was greatly eased the application of the awning cleaner…
DSC07846
I sprayed the awning cleaning solution on the underside first, then the topside…
DSC07847
After both sides were thoroughly dampened with the cleaning solution, I rolled the awning up into its stored position for an hour to let the cleaning solution “cook”…
DSC07848
Then a thorough hosing to remove the cleaning solution. The awning looks noticeably cleaner for my efforts…
DSC07849
Then I let the awning completely dry for about four hours before rolling it back into its stored position…
DSC07850
I’ll soon be at Mary’s home in central California for about six weeks. On the way there I’ll stop at a truck/RV wash place for good outside cleaning. During my time at Mary’s, the interior will get a thorough cleaning. Then, after Thanksgiving…back on the road once again!

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny and 75 degrees. Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 80 degrees.

Mary has seven acres here and a fair amount of wildlife. Here are a couple I caught yesterday…

The wild turkeys are quite large. Made me think of Thanksgiving to come. Wonder what will happen to these guys?…

Don’t you wish you could do this?…

Mary has a pellet gun here, but it’d difficult at best. The usually high-tail it when they detect you, seldom stand still for very long and are very fast! I’ve taken a few longer distance shots…but so far, to no avail. Mary continues to wrestle with the pesky problems.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Wheatland Ferry – Oregon

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s second home at Wimer, Oregon. I’m expecting to depart from here October 13th.

Today’s Subject…Wheatland Ferry…

Three days ago, after departing Woodburn, Oregon, I stopped along the Willamette River to take a ride on the Wheatland Ferry. Located about 20 miles north of Salem, it is the oldest operating ferry in Oregon. I left the motorhome and Bronco parked along the eastern shore, took the about two-minute ferry ride to the western shore, visited some friends, then back to the eastern shore.

Here are the photos that I took…
