Paicines To Sonora, California

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 160 miles from Paicines to Sonora, California.

Three years ago I had the Bronco transmission rebuilt here in Sonora. During my recent stay in Paicines, I noticed the transmission was leaking fluid. As my next planned stop was here in Sonora, I elected to bring the Bronco back to the shop that did the rebuild. They told me that the problem was inside the transmission. So, I left the Bronco there and expect to pick it up after repairs are made by early next week.

I then went on to Wal-Mart and did some shopping, stocking up on a number of items as it will likely be about a month before I hit my next Wal-Mart.

It’s been many years since I’ve spent a night in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I did so strictly because of convenience. The VA Clinic is only about a mile from Wal-Mart.

My annual physical is scheduled April 29th at the VA Clinic here in Sonora. They wanted me to stop in early to provide blood and urine samples which I’ll do later this morning.

Once I complete my business at the VA Clinic, I’ll proceed to Mary’s home about 25 miles distant.

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

Yesterday was mostly sunny and 68 degrees. Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 68 degrees.

Sonora, California

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California where she is busy attending to personal matters.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco 30 miles from Murphys to Sonora, California…the location of my new VA Outpatient Clinic. The purpose of the 45 minute trip was to have lab work done in preparation for meeting my new primary care doctor tomorrow.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor will make the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

The location in Sonora is so much more convenient than the massive facility in Seattle…

It’s only got 10 parking spaces. I did not inquire how this driver managed this trick or what happened to him…

I had my lab work done and was on my way back to Mary’s within 10 minutes of my arrival. I’ll make the return trip to meet my new doctor tomorrow.

Along the way I passed the Melones Reservoir which illustrates the impact of California’s long drought. You can see where the high water has been in the past. All throughout this area are signs saying “Water Shortage…Please Conserve” and “Pray For Rain”…

Since my arrival two days ago there’s been some pretty good rainfall. It rained hard last night with some thunder and lightning. It’s raining steadily as I write this morning.

Maybe I should hire myself out as a Rain Maker!  🙂

Yesterday was a cloudy day at 66 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy with rain showers and 68 degrees.

Murphys, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 67 miles from Manteca to Murphys, California…the location of Mary’s home. She is busy attending to personal matters. I’m uncertain how long I will be here. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

I’ve had a change of plans. Instead of drifting along the central California coast this Spring, I arrived yesterday at Mary’s home. Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. It’s always been difficult getting to that VA Hospital, so I’ve made arrangements to change to a local VA Clinic in Sonora, California…about 25 miles from Mary’s home. My appointment to meet my new primary care doctor is this Friday who will make the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected.

This morning I will go to the VA Clinic in Sonora to have lab work done in preparation to meeting my new primary care doctor on Friday.

Yesterday’s journey went from about 100 feet elevation to about 2,200. During the climb the road for several miles gets quite narrow and very twisty and turning. The first photo was taken after passing though that section of the highway. I really could not handle a camera and drive through that section safely…

Moonset Over Heron Lake, New Mexico

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort in Acton, California. Mary is at home attending to personal matters. I am scheduled to arrive there on March 5th.

I’ve had a change of plans. My appointment to meet my new primary care doctor is on March 7th who will make the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected.

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

To read about today’s photo album location, click this link… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heron_Lake_%28New_Mexico%29

All photos in this album did not use a tripod…all were hand-held. Some are in the watercolor mode.
