Jefferson County International Airport – Port Townsend, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Connor, Washington. I’ll depart here August 30th. I’ve been here a number of times in past years.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about a month.)

Today’s subject…

About one month ago while in Port Townsend, I visited the Jefferson County International Airport. It’s the smallest international airport I’ve ever seen. A local told me it can be called an international airport is because you can actually get a commercial flight on Island Air into Canada, a mere 30 miles distant.

I Got A Really Big One!

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. My scheduled departure date is July 20th.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. The construction of Mary’s rental continues along…slowly. She now is hoping to rejoin me by early September.  😦

Today’s subject…I Got A Really Big One!

While in town yesterday I stopped at Goodwill looking for used books. Because of their larger size and weight, I generally do not buy hardbacks unless they are unique and yesterday I found one. It’s 934, 8.5×11 pages, 2 1/8 inches thick and weighs in at a whopping 7.5 pounds!

I’m a Civil War history buff and have been to many of the battlefields back on the east coast. Here’s the cover indicating that it has nearly 4,000 images…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Here’s what the typical inside pages look like…

DSC07233

The book is absolutely the Civil War book I’ve ever read…and I’m only 67 pages into it! I just love the old black and white photos of times past that will never occur again.

The first 35 pages of the book tells the story of  where the Civil War started…in Charleston, South Carolina…and the location of Forts Moultrie and Sumter where the first shot of the Civil War occurred. I was in Charleston on May 10, 2007. Here’s three photos…

Municipal Wharf #2 – Monterey, California #1

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Morgan Hill, California.

My eye surgeon at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California wants me back for a six-month post-operation examination of my cataract surgery. My appointment is scheduled for April 21st. Palo Alto is only about 40 miles from my current location. I’ll sit here until the 21st when I’ll drive the Bronco to Palo Alto. I expect to arrive at Mary’s home in Murphys, California on either April 22 or 23.

Recently I spent several days in Monterey…an area rich in beautiful scenery and history. A bonanza for a travel blogger! I ended up with 17 blog titles and 628 photos which I’ll present over the roughly next six weeks. This works well for me because I’ll be in an “idle period” during that time. Currently I’m sitting here in Morgan Hill (I’ve been here a number of times in the past) awaiting my VA hospital appointment. Then off to Mary’s home for about four weeks during which time I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and cleaning. On about May 21, Mary and I are planning to head-out for Yellowstone National Park (and other destinations) in Wyoming. Till then, enjoy Monterey!

Today’s subject – Municipal Wharf #2, (aka Commercial Wharf)…

Municipal Wharf II was constructed in 1926 at a cost of $262,000. After World War II, the sardine population in Monterey Bay collapsed.

It is the eastern most structure in Monterey Harbor. Facilities located on Wharf II include five wholesale fish companies, a commercial abalone farm, public restrooms, snack bar, restaurants, boat hoist and the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club.

It’s 1,000 feet long. A 700-foot fishing promenade extends out from Wharf II and covers the protective sea wall on the East side of the Marina. Anglers may fish from the East side of the wharf. A fishing license is not required for sport fishing from a public pier or wharf in California. No fishing is allowed around the commercial facilities and in the marina for safety reasons.

To the East of Wharf II is Del Monte Beach. Kayaks may be rented and launched from the beach.

In the below Google Earth image Old Fisherman’s Wharf is on the left and Municipal Wharf #2, aka Commercial Wharf, is the longer one on the right…

Tomorrow we will continue with more of the beautiful scenery and history that is part of Monterey, California!

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

U. S. Highway 101 – Southern Oregon

Mary is returning with her 14-year-old grandson from a trip to Turkey. I expect her to catch up with me sometime in mid-May somewhere in Oregon.

The day before yesterday I drove the 168 miles from Blue Lake, California to Sixes, Oregon. The entire drive was on U.S. Highway 101, a road I have driven several times before. I’m parked in the yard of a friend whom I’ll tell you about soon. I’m planning to depart here on Wednesday. Now that I’ve arrived here, I’m planning to slow my pace and spend the rest of May along the Oregon Coast.

Today I’ll show some photos taken during the second half of the trip. About 80 miles in Southern Oregon…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The first thing you notice is that gas is noticeably less expensive than in California…

Yesterday was cloudy and breezy with rain showers at 54 degrees. Today’s forecast is partly cloudy with spotty rain and 59 degrees. A bit cool, but delightful compared to the three days of mid-90’s I was in three days ago!

RV Low Energy Use

Full-time RVers use less energy than stick-built home-owners. In this short video is brief explanation…

http://fulltime-rver.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-and-why-full-timers-use-so-few.html

One more good reason for being a full-time RVer!  🙂
