Harlingen, Texas – Day 22

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort. We’ll be moving along later this morning.

Yesterday, once again, we had planned a day trip to San Padre Island about 50 miles distant. But, once again, heavy rain with lots of thunder and lightning forced a cancellation of our plans.

So we put the day to good use by doing laundry, picking up Mary’s bicycle from the repair shop, visiting with a contingency of the my ex-RV singles group, for which I belonged to for 10 years and dropped out in 2007, who were passing through Harlingen and staying at the Elks Club. By time we returned at 6:00 PM, the sky was starting to clear, I thought, only to be followed by more rain, thunder and lightning during the night…

The weather forecast for today is sunny and 71 degrees. That’s good because our allowed time here at Tropic Winds RV Resort is up and we are obligated to move on. So today we’ll take both the motorhome and Bronco and head towards San Padre Island. The below Google Earth image shows the Harlingen area in the upper left. SPI identifies the island which is a strip of land that runs North for 70 miles and PI identifies Port Isabel, a small community with some museums we’ll likely visit…

Harlingen, Texas – Day 21

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort. We expect to move on tomorrow.

Yesterday we had planned a day trip to San Padre Island about 50 miles distant. But constant 50+ mile per hour winds and severe morning thunderstorms canceled our plans.

This is your smarter-than-average jack-rabbit, not only does it have its back to the wind…it’s hiding from the wind directly behind a tree…

The rain finally stopped around noontime…the wind continued. In the afternoon we ventured out with the Bronco to take Mary’s bicycle to a shop for repairs. Then a little grocery shopping and back to the motorhome. We’re hoping the weather will cooperate today for our San Padre Island trip.

Harlingen, Texas – Day 20

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort and is scheduled to be here until January 10th.

Yesterday Mary and I did some more cleaning of the motorhome. We even had both professionally washed and waxed. Finally the cleaning for now is essentially done. The road of life is a dusty one!

Harlingen, Texas – Day 13

Mary is at home in California enjoying the holidays with her family. She has made her airline reservations to join me here at Harlingen, Texas on January 3, 2013.

The motorhome is parked at Tropic Winds RV Resort and is scheduled to be here until January 10th. While I await Mary’s arrival on the 3rd, I’ll be seeing some local attractions, performing repairs and preventative maintenance on both the motorhome and Bronco, plus thoroughly cleaning both vehicles.

Since I’m an early riser and usually publish the day’s Blog entry before sunrise, I’ll have to show you the last sunrise as seen out of the windshield of the motorhome for 2012, here in Harlingen, Texas…

Harlingen, Texas – Day 3

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical and personal business issues.

A couple of weeks ago the electric door lock on the passenger’s door of the Bronco decided to stop working. Normally when that happens it means one of the two solenoids has become defective or the electrical contacts are dirty/corroded. So that’s where I started yesterday…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

I cleaned the electrical contacts, the door actuator still made noise but did not function, so that meant the problem was inside of the door. So, in I went to find the problem. I could not see it behind the door’s metal partition, but by feeling by hand I found the pin had come out of the hole on the  connector. Re-inserting the pin into the connector solved the problem. Start to finish, the entire job took about two hours…

029

During the day I also took some photos of the local rabbits. You can read about these Black-tailed Jackrabbits by clicking this link…
