10 Days From Today…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Sadly Mary is struggling with health issues. To see the latest about her situation, click here

I’m currently in my 24th year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort in Manteca, California. I’m scheduled to depart here October 7th.

In the past few months I’ve indicated my 50+ year RVing life is changing. In my humble opinion, just like the world and the United States in general, not for the good.

5 days ago, I published my last blog posting on this topic. In case you missed it, here’s the link…

I’ve also indicated that on October 14th, I’m scheduled to arrive at a mystery location. A place my motorhome has never been to before. In addition, many other surprising changes await me there!

I’ve been having some fun offering clues about my mystery destination. My location here in Manteca, California has me a mere 505 miles distant, waiting out hopefully lower temperatures.  🙂

So far the clues have revealed about this mysterious destination…

  • It gets really hot there in the summertime.
  • It’s in California
  • It’s a place of beautiful sunrises
  • It’s an oasis… an island in the desert…

Here’s today’s really big clue… It’s within the boundaries of Riverside County…

In the meantime here is another photo of a recent sunrise sent to me by a friend…

More clues and other changes coming soon!  🙂

Now… to a totally different topic…

TODAY IS MARY’S 79TH BIRTHDAY!

If you are a regular follower of this blog, you know that I met Mary in 2008 and that she traveled with me part-time for six years… kind of two months on and two months off scenario. We shared many delightful experiences together. Out of the 5,602 postings on this blog site, Mary has published 1,800 of them.

You will also know just last week I finished up a nice four day visit with her at her home in Murphys, California. You will also know that about eight months ago, she was diagnosed with, and since that time has been battling colon cancer.

I’m most pleased to tell you that I found Mary looking surprisingly well. Other than being a little thinner than when we traveled together, to look at her you would never know she is dealing with cancer. She is still quite a sparkling and resilient personality, calling herself a tough old bird! Those of you who have met her will remember her well. She’s definitely a character and not easily forgotten.

Looks aside, battling cancer is mentally fatiguing, but she told me that she’s still hoping to “get a few more years out of this life”.

She may get mad at me for doing this, but I’m going to give you an email address, just in case you might want wish her well. You can send your message to mgmatzek@sbcglobal.net

Here’s a couple of photos…

Her 75th Birthday…

The latest photo I have of her…

Frankie Jean Lewis Terrell – Farriday, Louisiana RIP

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’ve been here many times before. I’m scheduled to leave here tomorrow..

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about three weeks.)

Today’s subject…

A couple of nights ago, I watched a video about Jerry Lee Lewis called Great Balls Of Fire.

I got to wondering if old Jerry Lee Lewis was still around…so I Googled him…and yes he is still performing. During my search, I stumbled upon the fact that his younger sister, Frankie Jean Lewis Terrell, age 71, passed away from a heart attack this past July 24th.

Back on March 22, 2013, I had the opportunity to meet this delightful lady when she gave me a personal one-hour tour through the Lewis home in Ferriday, Louisiana. She’s the only one living there now and maintains is as a Jerry Lee Lewis Museum…

Ashland, Wisconsin

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’ve been here a number of times before, so I’ve thoroughly seen all of the local tourist attractions. So, now I’m just hanging out enjoying the nice weather.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. The construction of Mary’s rental continues delay plagued. She now is hoping to rejoin me by early September.  😦

A more relaxed mode…

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, I have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months I will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless I do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Today’s Subject…Ashland, Wisconsin…

RESORT LIFE WITH THOUSAND TRAILS.

DSC03059 (Copy)

In real estate they say location, location, location. We are fortunate to have a place like this in Palm Desert to enjoy. The sunrise yesterday was stellar. The palm trees were once a producing orchard for medjool dates.

DSC03061 (Copy)

We did some speed walking, about 40 minutes around the park. I was in the pool by 9:30 for a short swim, then 10 minutes in the hot tub. Ahhh!  I like traveling about, and boondocking, but spending time in a resort is an enjoyable alternative.  Great beauty makes it that much more pleasant. At 2:00 I went line dancing in the recreation hall.  It was fun and not too difficult for a newbie to catch on.

DSC03067 (Copy)For happy hour we visited with Jan and Larry Seaberg at their permanent site. They spend winters here. We notice the parks are switching to more permanent sites and the “camping parks” as we know them are in many places phasing out.

DSC03068 (Copy)Larry, Jan, and Jim got acquainted when they lived in Washington State about 30 years ago.

DSC03066 (Copy)

Lacy likes to socialize. She walks with everyone in the morning so the kennel isn’t as confining as it might seem.

DSC03070 (Copy)

We walked back to our site under gray skies. Two jets seemed to be playing cross-hatch.

DEPARTURE DELAYED

A storm convinced us to stay put for an extra day. During a break in the storm, I took a walk and met  these two girls on the trail.

At Chehalis it’s clear, they have the right of way.

They weren’t shy about insisting on their rights.

They crossed right in front of me.

The oldest one first, the youngest second. They weren’t in a hurry.

Possibly conscious of the speed limit sign which was posted on the opposite side of the road.

I  had to move on.

It was all rocks from then forward.

When I returned to the motor home, Jim was arranging his reading material.

He reads one author at a time. Cuts masking tape squares and numbers them in the order to be read. What can I say?  An engineer.
