The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’ll depart here later this morning.

If you are a regular follower of this blog, you know that my ex-travel partner/companion has not traveled with me since September 2014 and that we remain good friends.

You will also know she is dealing with colon cancer issues.

Prior to today, this had been her last communique dated March 14th…

Yesterday I received another email which follows below. In a phone conversation yesterday she told me that after her first round of chemo, one tumor had shrunk 53% and the second 70%. Certainly good news!

Here’s yesterday’s email sent to family and friends…

Hi everyone,

I’ve signed on with Dr. Cho at the Cal. St. University of Davis, Cancer Center in Sacramento.
I’ve had two appointments with Dr. Cho and she uses a drug called Keytruda, which is, like chemo, not a sure cure, but with continuous treatments over a period of years, it can extend your life, maybe enough to get to a place where immunotherapy using DNA modification is actually available to the general public. IF the Keytruda works? It works for 40 % of people who try it. One infusion every three weeks and no more chemo-which is very hard on older people-Dr. Cho informed me.
Keytruda has many side effects, some are really horrible, but for others they are mild. Or, maybe it just isn’t working for me. I won’t know until my sixth session on Keytruda. It doesn’t kill healthy cells, a great plus. So, after one infusion, I have a bit of nausea and my food doesn’t taste like it is supposed to. It is so little for such a chance to gain so much.
In the meantime, I’ve decided to hire a woman to help me with my genealogy, so it will actually get finished in a timely manner. I’m doing, the Dionnes, the Moores and the Matzeks. All three. And, I enjoy the doing.

So, there you have what I consider good news. Hope is always good news. I’m sure I’m benefiting from all of your prayers.

I hope you enjoyed the message.

Forecast for today is sunny and 86 degrees. Too danged hot for me…time to move on!

New destination forecast is sunny and 64 degrees.

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!

Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort – Acton, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 75 miles from Fontana to Acton, California. In Fontana I was at 1,295 feet of elevation, crossed the Cajon Pass area at Mountain Top at 4,808 feet and arrived at Acton at 2,558 feet. The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort.

I will be here one week. California has been in an extended drought, but this week back to back winter storms starting Wednesday and ending Sunday will bring lots of much-needed rain to the area. I’m in a comfortable place to ride out the storms. I’m scheduled to arrive Mary’s home on March 5th.

Enjoying beautiful animals in nature is another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails about 40 miles west of San Antonio. It’s the largest RV resort company with 80 locations nationwide, of which Mary and I are members.

I’m beginning my “Winter hibernation” by hiding out from colder weather with a three-week stay, departing not later than December 10th. After my stay here, I’ll head even further south until I reach the Rio Grande River and the border of Mexico to hide out from the colder Winter weather.

I haven’t been in San Antonio since 1979, so I may take a day-trip or two there while I’m here. Other than that I’ll just be hanging around reading and doing area photography. I’ll be supplementing my daily Blog with RV related topics that I’ve accumulated over the past year.

Eagles Club #2327 RV Parking Area, Monroe, Washington

Yesterday Mary and I drove the motorhome the about 13 miles from Everett to Monroe, Washington. The parking area is located along a small river about one mile away from the Eagles Club itself in downtown Monroe.

It was pretty, peaceful and quiet…and only $10.00 a night for electricity and water. Today we’ll move the about six miles to Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort along the shore of the Snohomish River in Monroe.

A Google Earth’s Eye View…

Jim says:

of Thousand Trails RV Resort in Thousand Palms, California…my current location is marked in yellow. I like this back corner of the park because it’s away from the road noise of Interstate Highway 10 seen at the bottom and it’s close to the restrooms which have the best showers in their system and the laundry.

Picture

The park has 445 spaces, kitchen, family lodge, billiards room, pool, spa, library, recreation lodge, youth room, adult lodge, fitness room, pickle ball court, horseshoes courts and a large menu of ongoing activities. I’ve been stopping here for a two-week stay since 2001. Every morning with friends I walk up, down and around the park which takes about an hour.
