The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’m scheduled to depart October 22nd.

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

The motorhome is still parked at VFW Post #4895. We are planning to depart later this morning and will be crossing into Kentucky.

 

 

Yesterday was a leisurely day. It was supposed to rain hard…but never did. We decided to visit the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center. There once was a fort there…but no battle was fought there. The Confederates were thinly staffed and poorly trained. Believing they had not a chance against the expected superior Union forces…they walked away from the fort. When the Yankees arrived…they found white flags flying from the fort and the city surrendered without a shot being fired.

 

 

The Interpretive Center tells the story of what life was like in Clarksville, population 5,000, during the Civil War. A 15 minute film presents it from a woman’s point of view. You can read about the Interpretive Center by clicking their official website link…

The motorhome is still parked at VFW Post #4895. Heavy rains are forecast for today so we are now planning to depart tomorrow.

 

 

Yesterday I spent part of the morning researching our future possible routes and things to see and do as we continue our travels towards New England. Then I took Mary to the recycle center so she could continue saving the earth. On the way back to the motorhome we stopped at a used bookstore and found they were having a going-out-of-business sale. I bought 23 books for $.50 each. Such a deal!

 

 

In the afternoon Mary had a professional massage and says she had a good night’s sleep and is feeling somewhat better this morning. She and I continue to deal with aches and pains from the May 27th accident of last year.

 

 

After her massage we went to the Custom House Museum and Cultural Center. Here are some of the photos that I took…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 75 miles from Camden to Clarksville, Tennessee.

 

 

First thing before leaving Camden was a lube and oil change for the motorhome…

Then on to Fort Donelson National Battlefield where one of the first important battles of the Civil War was fought February 11 to 16, 1862. Into the visitors center…

 

 

 

 

 

We began our visit with a 15 minute film that explained why this location was so important…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was considered the Gateway to the Heart of The South. You can read all about Fort Donelson by clicking their official website link…

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the next two days. Plus Mary continues to struggle with an assortment of pains and is now talking about seeking a professional massage to find relief. We’ll also take in some of the local sights…so I guessing we will be here 2-3 days.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 75 miles from Savannah to Camden, Tennessee.

 

 

Along the way we traveled on some narrow back roads…

I then unhooked the Bronco to drive the Bronco the about five miles to the Patsy Cline Crash Site Memorial location. Patsy Cline was a very famous country-western music singer who was only 30 years old when she died. You can read about her and the crash by clicking this Wikipedia link…

Upon return to the Elks club we went inside and met a bunch of very friendly people. So much so that when we exited two hours later we declared Elks club #2156 in Camden, Tennessee…The Friendliest Elks Club In The United States!

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’m scheduled to depart October 17th.

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about two miles to downtown Savannah. Our first stop of the day was at the Tennessee River Museum. You can read all about this museum by clicking their official website link…

The museum presents the river’s history from the beginning of time. Being a photographer, I particularly enjoyed the old black and white photos of the riverboats. Most museums simply show the photos…this museum actually tells you about the photograph you are viewing.

The art gallery was closed, so we decided to cross the street again and check out the Hardin County Courthouse. It has a beautiful marble circular staircase. Since we had learned so much about the Tennessee River, we decided to get a closer look and drove to the nearby Riverside Park. This first photo is of the bridge we crossed over with the motorhome on U.S. Highway 64. The river is currently very high at about flood stage and is expected to crest in the next couple of days flooding low-lying roads…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 50 miles from Saulsbury to Savannah, Tennessee. Along the way we stopped at Shiloh National Military Park where on April 6-7, 1862 some of the bloodiest fighting of the Civil War occurred.
