Over And Around Indian Hill At Winterhaven, California

The motorhome is now parked at the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven, California. Less than 1/2 mile away is the Colorado River and on the other side…the sunniest place on Earth…Yuma, Arizona. I’m here hanging out and enjoying the nice weather. I have several friends in the area. Mary is now expecting to rejoin me here in mid-February. I’m planning to leave this area tomorrow.

I’ve been coming to this Yuma, Arizona area coming on to 20 years and have thoroughly explored the area. Rather than go back to these various places and re-create the wheel, (unless I do something different and unusual) I’m electing to republish some of my earlier blog entries while I await Mary’s arrival.

Here’s a reprint of the blog entry from January 7, 2012…

In yesterday’s blog entry I showed some photos of Indian Hill which overlooks the Colorado River across from Yuma, Arizona. In case you missed that entry, here’s the link… http://wp.me/pDCku-3fg

Yesterday after my Blog entry we took another two-hour walk…this time over and around to the other side of Indian Hill.

In the first photo…to the left is the Old Yuma Territorial Prison…then the railroad bridge and finally…the one-lane (even today) vehicle bridge that completed the Coast To Coast Highway in 1914…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Next left to right…Old Fort Yuma Barracks…the old railroad station and St. Thomas Indian Mission…

The old railroad station waiting area apparently did not have any exterior walls for most of the building…

My walking companions Anne and Randy pose near a salt cedar tree…

A side view of the St. Thomas Indian Mission and the old railroad station…

A big old palm tree…

Interstate Highway 8 crosses the Colorado River heading north…

The Colorado River looking south…

A very old dried-up tree trunk…

A very old brick made in Mexico…

Another side view of St. Thomas Indian Mission and railroad cars…

Looking north at first the Coast To Coast Bridge in the foreground and the railroad bridge in the background…

Looking south at Interstate Highway 8…

A front view of the St. Thomas Indian Mission…

And a closer view…

The Colorado River heading north…

Finally about 15 minutes after sunset…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…End of Blog reprint…

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

Yesterday was a cloudy with showers around at 62 degrees.  Forecast for today is sunny and 73 degrees.

Sunset As Seen From Atop St. Thomas Indian Mission Hill – Winterhaven, California

Mary is currently dealing with some medical issues. Her return-to-me date is now looking like mid-February.

I’ve posted several sunset Blog entries during my current four-week visit here. It’s interesting to note that the “clouds” for the most part are not natural. They mainly result from the MANY jet contrails that pass over the area during the day. At 25,000+ feet they get diffused by the high altitude winds and by the end of the day…beautiful sunsets are the results.

I would classify last evening’s sunset as average. The only difference in today’s photos is that I decided to walk to the St. Thomas Indian Mission atop the Old Fort Yuma Hill. Let’s take a look at what I saw…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The first photo is taken from the motorhome…

It took about 10 minutes to make it to the top of the hill, Along the way I looked back to the northeast to catch the sun reflecting from the distant mountains. The motorhome is left-center towards the rear of the parking lot…

From atop the hill the sunset is seen unobstructed by the hill. The distant mountains are in Mexico…

All Of This In 15 Minutes Of A Sunset In Winterhaven, California

Over the years I’ve published a number of Blog entries of the beautiful sunsets here in Winterhaven California. Last evening was another beauty!

Instead of showing it in my normal Picasa Web Album way, this time I’ve turned it into a 1:27 YouTube video. The reflections seen were taken in my Ford Bronco II, a left front fender of a Ford 350 pickup truck, the left side of a large motorhome and the bedroom window of my motorhome.

Here’s the video.. I recommend you click on full-screen asap…

A Morning Walk Along The Colorado River At Yuma, Arizona

I’m here hanging out and enjoying the nice weather. I have several friends in the area. Mary is currently dealing with some medical issues. Her return-to-me date is now looking like mid-February.

Yesterday I took a morning walk along the southeastern shore of the Colorado River at Yuma, Arizona. On the way there I took a photo while waiting for the red light to change to green. The walk went from below the bridges about 1/2 mile along the right side of the river shore to the bend in the river…
