Murphys To Bakersfield, Califronia

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 239 miles from Murphys to Bakersfield, California.

I departed Mary’s home in Murphys, CA yesterday morning shortly after 8:00 AM. The temperature was only 37 degrees…

After 2 hours and 75 miles later,, I finally got on U.S. Highway 99 at Merced which I traveled another 214 miles and arrived in Bakersfield, CA. I’m parked at Moose Lodge #2178 where it’s relatively quiet and I have an electrical hookup. It was also Taco Tuesday evening at the Moose Lodge where I enjoyed a HUGE AND DELICIOUS taco salad for only $3…  🙂

Along the way, my new recent installs worked just fine. My new tire pressure monitoring system…

And my new smartphone which fit very nicely into driver’s side cup holder. I used the GPS system which was very accurate on my first ever GPS assisted drive…

At elevation 408 feet in elevation here in Bakersfield, CA, it’s only a little bit warmer than Murphys, CA. It was 60 degrees when I arrived late afternoon yesterday and it was 44 degrees when I awoke at 5:00 AM this morning. Fortunately with an electrical hookup I can use my electric heater to keep warm. The motorhome has a gas furnace but it’s not terribly efficient and just gobbles the expensive propane gas.

I’ll head out once again later this morning.

I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Forecast for today is partly sunny and 60 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Two Unusual Happenings Yesterday…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I expect to leave tomorrow.

I’ve been coming to Mary’s home for ten years. Usually a couple of times a year for a 2-3 week visit. I’m always here during the Thanksgiving period.

For the very first time, yesterday I saw these very pretty birds. I looked for them online and believe them to be Western Bluebirds…

And the second unusual happening was the arrival of my new AND VERY FIRST, smartphone. It’s the Moto G5plus…

Mary bought one a few months ago and I got to play with it for a couple of hours on Thanksgiving Day. It’s the top-rated smartphone under $300, which for my use will work just fine. My current flip-phone is now 3.5 years old. Other than replacing the battery, I’ve not had any problems with it. But hey, how long can it be before it quits? I got a nice Black Friday Amazon price of $199.

It arrived about 11:30 AM yesterday. I spent the afternoon getting acquainted with it. It’s quite the amazing and interesting device. I’m pleased to say it’s a lot less complicated than I envisioned.

This morning I’ll head to the Verizon store to get a Sim Card and arrange to transfer contacts info.

The real reason I waited so long is because I wanted to be sure smartphones were not just a another fad!  🙂

It’s not my nature to rush into things. Being an ex-engineer, I’ll be busy during the next month learning how to run the dang thing. Fortunately, all I have is time!  🙂

In case you are interested, there are MANY videos about this device on YouTube. This link says 194,000 results…
