Rochester, Massachusetts Day 1 (GA563)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
To view past blogs, scroll to the bottom of this page and use the menu.
I’m currently in my 24th year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I may be here until March 4th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted July 28, 2013…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 25 miles from East Bridgewater to Rochester, Massachusetts to the Gateway to Cape Cod Campground. This campground is part of the Thousand Trails RV Resort system of which Mary and I are members.

This location marks the furthest point east the motorhome will travel during my 2011-2013 two-year circumnavigation of the United States. Mary and I thoroughly visited Cape Cod in 2010. I plan to depart here tomorrow.

Mary is back at  her home in California tending to some personal business. She has made her plane reservations and will fly to meet me in Boston, Massachusetts next Tuesday.

The weather continues lousy in New England. While the high temperatures have dissipated for the moment…the horrible humidity remains. This morning at 5:30 AM it was 90%, It’s raining right now with more on the way/ YUK!

Despite the smaller turnout folks seemed to really enjoy it. I got this nice comment from my cousin Mike…

Thanks a lot for a very informative seminar. Nice to have an experienced RV’er with your 49 years of RV’ing, including 18 years as a full timer, offering advice. Well Done!! Happy Camping. Response was overwhelming for this seminar.
We will be talking about it for some time. Stay Safe!

Camping USA, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts – Day 3

The motorhome is parked at Camping USA in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts where today I’ll be presenting a seminar on full-time RVing. I plan to depart after the seminar.

Mary is back at  her home in California tending to some personal business. She has made her plane reservations and will fly to meet me in Boston, Massachusetts next Tuesday.

Another lousy day of weather yesterday. High of 67 degrees with 98% humidity while it rained for most of the day.

I thought I’d show you a few photos of Camping USA…

Camping USA, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts – Day 2

The motorhome is parked at Camping USA in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts where tomorrow I’ll be presenting a seminar on full-time RVing. I plan to depart after the seminar.

Mary is back at  her home in California tending to some personal business. She has made her plane reservations and will fly to meet me in Boston, Massachusetts next Tuesday.

For the longest time it’s been too hot…now it’s too cold! The day before it was 83 degrees with 90+ percent humidity. Yesterday the high temperature was only 63 degrees with 80+ percent humidity. Seems like just about all of 2013 has been this way. How nice it would be to have a partly cloudy/sunny day, temperature at 69 degrees, low humidity with a gentle breeze!

When I arose at 5:00 AM this morning it was 62 degrees with 98% humidity. YUK!

Yesterday, the folks at Camping USA told me the oldest post office in the United States was just up the street…less than a five-minute walk…so I went to investigate. Talking to Bill Flynn, the Postmaster and only employee (who did not want to be in any photos) was that this is the oldest United States Post Office in a continuous location. It was established at this location in 1861. Elmwood is a part of today’s East Bridgewater…

Here are some photos that I took…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The building was built by Levi Churchill to be a general store in 1829. Levi resided on the second floor…

042

035

The Post Office is in a small corner of the building and is located behind the flag. Because of the poor economy, the remainder of the building is empty…

034

032

According to Bill, the darker post office boxes were installed in 1861…

Bill showed me this old photo taken long before the handicap access was required. He believes the photo to be 60-70 years old…
