Rancho Oso Photos #5

The motorhome is now parked at Thousand Trails Rancho Oso (Bear Ranch in Spanish) RV Resort. In reality the park has a Santa Barbara, California mail address, but is physically located about 25 miles north of Santa Barbara in the Los Padres National Forest.

Mary continues to be occupied with personal business. I am now not expecting to see her again until I arrive at her home in Murphys, California about the third week in April. It’s just the way things are and we just have to deal with it.

I’m now in what I’m calling my “pacing mode”. Last October I had cataract surgery at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. My surgeon wants me back in mid-April for a six-month post-operative eye examination. Palo Alto is only about 275 miles from my current location. So, in the meantime, I’ll “pace” my forward direction travels hoping stay in 65-75 degree temperatures all the while.

Last Saturday I wandered around this 310 acre park for two hours and took a bunch of photos. Brilliant mid-morning sun and deep shadows makes for difficult photography conditions. I’ll share them with you over a six-day period. Today is #5…

Ventura To Santa Barbara, California

Yesterday I drove to motorhome the about 60 miles from Ventura to Santa Barbara, California. I’m now parked at Thousand Trails Rancho Oso (Bear Ranch in Spanish) RV Resort. In reality the park has a Santa Barbara mail address, but is physically located about 25 miles north of Santa Barbara in the Los Padres National Forest.

About 2/3 of the trip was on U.S. Highway 101 which runs along the coast of the Pacific Ocean…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC05574

Then you head north on California Highway 154 rapidly rising to the 2,000+ mountain pass…

DSC05575

Then a right for a four-mile drive on narrow Paradise Road…

DSC05576

Then another right on the 1.2 mile road leading to the park. This is where it gets really hairy because it’s one lane with few places where two RV’s may pass-by each other. If two RV’s that are towing vehicles behind meet…you’ve got a problem…someone will have to unhook and backup…

DSC05577

There are three switchbacks locations where it’s so narrow they have installed mirrors to help you see if there is traffic coming from the opposite direction. Fortunately for me, I met no outbound traffic…

DSC05578

Being in the mountains the park is situated such that there are several layers on which to park…my location is marked by the X…

The sites are kind of narrow…

And here is the usual dinette window photo…
