Parks-Janeway Carriage House – Santa Ynez, California

The motorhome is now parked at Thousand Trails Rancho Oso (Bear Ranch in Spanish) RV Resort. In reality the park has a Santa Barbara, California mail address, but is physically located about 25 miles north of Santa Barbara in the Los Padres National Forest. I’ll be departing here this morning.

Mary continues to be occupied with personal business. I am now not expecting to see her again until I arrive at her home in Murphys, California about the third week in April. It’s just the way things are and we just have to deal with it.

I’m now in what I’m calling my “pacing mode”. Last October I had cataract surgery at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. My surgeon wants me back in mid-April for a six-month post-operative eye examination. Palo Alto is only about 275 miles from my current location. So, in the meantime, I’ll “pace” my forward direction travels hoping stay in 65-75 degree temperatures all the while. My appointment is now set for April 21st.

Yesterday I blogged about the Valley Historical Museum at Santa Ynez, California…http://wp.me/pDCku-bOZ

Directly adjacent and associated with the museum is the Parks-Janeway Carriage House with one of the finest collections of wagons and stagecoaches in the West.

Here are a few of the photos that I took…

A few days ago I drove the Bronco the 20 miles to the Valley Historical Museum at Santa Ynez, California. It’s a really nice local museum that does a good job portraying the area’s history. Visiting local museums and getting an understanding of their history greatly adds to the enjoyment of my visit of that area.

The highest arch bridge in the U.S. state of California, the Cold Spring Canyon bridge crosses a tree-filled ravine north of Santa Barbara. Two large steel box beam ribs support a 2-lane roadway 400 feet high. Controversy rose over how to deal with a suicide rate of one person per year since the bridge opened in 1963 with as many as 5 people a year recently. In 2012 a barrier was installed to block any jumpers though the new fence also blocks what was once a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding mountains.

The Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge crosses over the Stagecoach Road. It can be seen beneath the bridge in the first two photos below…
