San Juan Islands – Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Connor, Washington. I’ll depart here August 30th. I’ve been here a number of times in past years.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

This area of Washington has always been one of my very favorite locations in all of the United States. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the air is fresh and clean, it seldom gets too hot or cold, there are virtually no bugs or mosquitos and the people are very friendly. I’ve been coming here for years and know the area very well. It’s my very favorite place to go to during the Summer…that’s why I keep returning.

Yesterday’s blog posting was about Fidalgo Island.

One of the most enjoyable things to do in this area is take a day trip on the Wasington State Ferry System and wander among the San Juan Islands, just west of Fidalgo Island and Anacortes.

Here are some photos I took of the San Juan Islands back in 2009…

Yesterday was mostly sunny and 77 degrees. Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 78 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!

A Day Trip To Orcas Island, Washington – Part 3…

Last Friday…A day that started foggy and cool which turned into a delightful sunny and 71 degree day…I drove the Bronco II on to the Washington State Ferry Yakima…for the 50 minute trip to Orcas Island..part of the beautiful San Juan Islands of Puget Sound. We spent about five hours on the island savoring the abundant beauty.

Here is a Google Earth view of the area…

This illustration is from the below Wikipedia link. There are MANY smaller islands not shown…

Below are just a few photos. You can left click on each photo and they should open to a larger view…

Our final stop of day was atop Mt. Constitution…at 2, 409 feet…the highest elevation on Orcas Island. From here…at about 52 crow-fly  miles away…Mt. Baker can been seen…

As we drove about the Ferry Yakima…it was still foggy and in the mid-50’s…

There’s a horizon out there with lots of islands…I hope the radar is working well…

Along the way we pass close to an island as the fog is starting to lift…

The fog creates most interesting views…

Finding the way through the fog…

Mary enjoyed using her new camera for the first time…

Here comes another ferry going the other way…

A side view…

Approaching the hamlet of Orcas…our landing place…
