Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about one mile to Fort Concho National landmark. Established in December, 1867, it was built to protect frontier settlements, patrol map the vast West Texas region, and quell hostile threats in the area. It was deactivated In 1889. It claims to be one of the best reserved forts of the Indian Wars Era (1866-1891). It is owned and operated by the City of San Angelo.

I’ve always been an avid museum goer. Over the many years I’ve been on the road, I’ve been in a whole bunch. San Angelo has a different than usual museum…Miss Hattie’s Bordello Museum. The building was built in 1896 and It operated as a bordello for 50 years from 1902 t0 1952 when it was closed by the Texas Rangers.

The kitchen, dining room and bathroom were for the girls who lived on the premises. Miss Hattie’s had the first running water in San Angelo. They had their meals cooked for them and also had their washing done by others. Sheets were changed daily. The top earning girl demanded $2 for her services…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Miss Hattie’s was located on the second floor of this building,,,

A patron entered through this door at 18 1/2 East Concho Street…

Then walked up these stairs to the second floor…

I’m not sure if the patrons got one of these tokens…

Here’s what’s on the second floor…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 80 miles from Sweetwater to San Angelo, Texas.

The day started with a sliver moon over the sunrise. To see the moon you need to look closely at the top right-center…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Upon arriving in San Angelo, I went to the Chevrolet dealer and got the motorhome an oil change and lube. Then to VFW Post #1815 where I expect to be for the next 3-4 days…

Here’s a look at San Angelo shortly after sunset from the back of the VFW overlooking the Concho River…

In the back room of the VFW, the Lone Star Cloggers were practicing. Beverly Grenda (in the green shirt) is the Director/Instructor. She started the group in 1997. Most of the gals have been dancing with this group for about nine years. They practice for two hours, two nights a week…

On the bottom of their shoes they wear double-plated steel jingle taps…

To see them strut their stuff, click this link…
http://youtu.be/bXQn-jC9ceU

I spent about a half-hour enjoying watching them dance to several tunes.

Finally, I always like to show the view from the dinette window…

While not a scenic view, it is very functional. First I’m on the east side of the building, so it blocks the cold winds. In addition, on the other side of the building is the railroad tracks, so the building blocks most of the noise.

I’ll start exploring San Angelo today.

Seeing clogging dancers practice is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Fort Concho National Historic Landmark – San Angelo, Texas

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor has made the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

My new eye exam date has now been rescheduled for March 24th.

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

To read about today’s photo album location, click this link… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Concho
