Heron Lake State Park – New Mexico Day 57 (GA205)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I expect to depart here November 13th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted August 15, 2012…

Note: This is Blog entry #2,000 on our site.

The motorhome is still parked at Heron Lake State Park about 20 miles south of Chama, New Mexico while I am recovering from my May 27th accident. To read about my recovery status, click this link… https://otrwjam.wordpress.com/recovery-status-page/

While I’m recovering, Mary remains at her home in California tending to doctor’s appointments, her rentals and other miscellaneous business.

I’ve been here for several weeks now and have photographed everything worth seeing within a 30 mile radius. One thing I do not seem to run out of is more beautiful sunsets…

Here are some photos that I took recently…

A Somewhat Unique View…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
My RVing lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’ll depart here December 21st.

My current location is about 10 miles east of Palm Springs, California. I’ve been stopping here for almost 20 years.

Today’s subject… A somewhat unique view of my current location at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Thousand Palms, California…courtesy of Google Earth.

The below image is seen from about a 45 degree angle looking North. The highway in front of the park is Interstate Highway 10. Also unique is the fact this image was taken June 23, 2010…when you do not want to be here. Temps in the summertime reach 120 degrees! So…at this time of the year the park is actually closed. The trailers you see are rentals which remain in place all year. The entrance to the park is shown by an X. My approximate location is shown by the arrow. The pool area is easily seen. The park has 445 sites and at this time of year is about full. Not easily seen in this image are the about 1000 Palm Date trees, all 50-60 feet tall.

You may click on the image to see a larger view…

This park is one of the most popular in the Thousand Trails system. I usually stop here for three weeks in early December and two weeks in late February.

I hope you enjoyed the photo!

Skagit Bay Beach #2…

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort along the shore of Skagit Bay in La Conner, Washington. I’ve been here a number of times over the past years and always enjoy it here. It’s my favorite resort in the entire Thousand Trails system. My departure date is August 7th.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. The construction of Mary’s rental continues along…slowly. She now is hoping to rejoin me by early September.  😦

I get a lot of nice comments about my photography. I shoot what I call…honest photography. In other words, I refuse to use any radical image altering programs like Photoshop. All I’ll admit to (and the truth) is minor cropping and perhaps a little color enhancement. Essentially, what you see is what I saw. Photography schools teach the best time of day to photograph is the hour just after sunrise or the hour just before sunset. The theory being dramatic side lighting is more enjoyable than midday overhead strong sunlight. It’s true…however most of my photography occurs between 10 AM and 2 PM…when it’s most convenient for me. I started photography in 1974 and was fortunate in my early years to have got some good photography schooling.

Today’s photos are a good example…shot in mid-afternoon. I walked along the beach of Skagit Bay shooting what I could find in the mid-afternoon lighting. More beach photos tomorrow…
