The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Mount Vernon RV Resort in Bow, Washington.I’ll depart here August 9th. I’ve been here a number of times in past years.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about three weeks.)

Today’s subject…

2004 Central America Trip #2

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I’ve been here several times in the past. My planned departure date is October 7th.

I’m expecting to arrive at Mary’s home in central California, October 15th and depart November 30th. While there, I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and major cleaning of the Bronco and motorhome.

I’m just hanging out enjoying the nice weather, so I’ve decided to do something I’ve not done before, that is to share with you photos from my

2004 Central America trip…

This trip ended up being 343 days and 16,000+ miles through the back-country of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 11 rigs started the trip, within a week we broke into three smaller groups for ease of traveling. Only myself and one other rig went the full, pre-planned route. All the others dropped out for various reasons. All returned safely to the United States. I’m planning to show these photos, more or less, 10 a day, whenever I’m not doing something else deserving a blog entry. FINALLY, it must be remembered these photos are prior to my switching to digital in 2006. The films were developed during our trip and the lack of quality control sometimes is plainly evident.

Views From The Siuslaw River Bridge – Florence, Oregon #2

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails South Jetty RV Resort in Florence, Oregon. I’ve been here several times before. I plan to depart from here June 5th. I’ll slow my pace and spend the rest of May and most of June along the Oregon coast. Then into the State of Washington for the summer.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. I’m hoping she will be able to rejoin me sometime after July 4th.

Today’s subject…the Siuslaw (pronounced sigh-YOU-slaw) River Bridge in Florence, Oregon…

U.S. Highway 101 is the principal roadway  (mostly) along the shoreline of the western United States. It runs almost 2,500 miles through the States of Washington, Oregon and California. You can read all about this roadway by clicking this Wikipedia link…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_101

Over the years I’ve driven about 99+% of this roadway, missing only the last few miles of its termination in downtown Los Angeles, California.

It’s a very scenic roadway, many times running right directly along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Here in Oregon, traffic slows to a crawl during the summer jammed by the many tourists. I try really hard to avoid this roadway during the time the kids are out of school for their summer vacation.

But, in the Spring and Fall of the year, it’s a delightful place to be! There are many bridges along this roadway. Today I’ll show some photos of the bridge over the Siuslaw River here in Florence…

In the below Google Earth image, TT marks my location and X marks Old Town Florence…

All Cleaned Up And Ready To Roll…

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I’ll depart later this morning.

Change of plans…

2015 is proving to be an overwhelming year for Mary. Her to-do plate is overflowing. Among the many things requiring her time is the completion of construction of a rental property in Rogue River, Oregon. Mary will be driving there on Saturday, May 9 for a few days of hands-on involvement, then return home to continue dealing with her over-flowing plate.

Mary’s stuff can only be attended to by herself…she’s always telling me she can not get anything done when I’m around. 🙂

So, I’ll depart her home with the motorhome and Bronco today and arrive at Rogue River on May 9th for a couple-day stay after which I’ll head for the Oregon Pacific Coast for about a six-week visit and then into the State of Washington for the summer.

We are now hoping for Mary to rejoin me sometime after July 4th. Our planned trip to Yellowstone National Park and Wyoming will hopefully now occur after the Labor Day holiday.

I wish she was departing with me today…but that’s just the way things are and we all got to do what we have to do…

Pacific House Museum – Monterey, California #1

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Morgan Hill, California.

My eye surgeon at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California wants me back for a six-month post-operation examination of my cataract surgery. My appointment is scheduled for April 21st. Palo Alto is only about 40 miles from my current location. I’ll sit here until the 21st when I’ll drive the Bronco to Palo Alto. I expect to arrive at Mary’s home in Murphys, California on either April 22 or 23.

Recently I spent several days in Monterey…an area rich in beautiful scenery and history. A bonanza for a travel blogger! I ended up with 17 blog titles and 628 photos which I’ll present over the roughly next six weeks. This works well for me because I’ll be in an “idle period” during that time. Currently I’m sitting here in Morgan Hill (I’ve been here a number of times in the past) awaiting my VA hospital appointment. Then off to Mary’s home for about four weeks during which time I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and cleaning. On about May 21, Mary and I are planning to head-out for Yellowstone National Park (and other destinations) in Wyoming. Till then, enjoy Monterey!

Today’s subject – Pacific House Museum…

Located about 100 feet from the Old Custom House, the Pacific House was constructed in 1847 during the U.S. occupation of California. This adobe was used by the U.S. Army as storage, a hotel, a court house, a tavern, and in later years as offices. The gardens outside were used for bullfights and bear fights. The Pacific House Museum tells the story of Monterey when it was the capital of Spanish and Mexican California, and also contains the Monterey Museum of the American Indian. This building is a California Historical Landmark (#354).

In the below Google Earth image the Pacific House museum is marked by the yellow “x”…

Cold Spring Tavern At San Marcos Pass, California

The motorhome is now parked at Thousand Trails Rancho Oso (Bear Ranch in Spanish) RV Resort. In reality the park has a Santa Barbara, California mail address, but is physically located about 25 miles north of Santa Barbara in the Los Padres National Forest.

Mary continues to be occupied with personal business. I am now not expecting to see her again until I arrive at her home in Murphys, California about the third week in April. It’s just the way things are and we just have to deal with it.

I’m now in what I’m calling my “pacing mode”. Last October I had cataract surgery at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. My surgeon wants me back in mid-April for a six-month post-operative eye examination. Palo Alto is only about 275 miles from my current location. So, in the meantime, I’ll “pace” my forward direction travels hoping stay in 65-75 degree temperatures all the while.

Two days ago I blogged the Stagecoach Road over San Marcos Pass…http://wp.me/pDCku-bNJ

The Cold Spring Tavern has been in this location on the Stagecoach Road since 1886. It’s got a really neat old-time character and atmosphere. I enjoyed a bowl of their great chili while here.

Here are a few of the photos that I took…
