I Visit A Blank Rock… (GA96)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I’ll depart here later this morning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted April 30, 2012…

I’m currently in Albuquerque, New Mexico awaiting Mary’s arrival on Tuesday, May 1st.

Prior to my arrival about a week ago, I did my usual Internet search of places I might like to visit while in an area. I’m particularly drawn to unique places and things.

Having lived in Washington State…the location of Microsoft headquarters…and being somewhat of a computer nerd…this thing sounded like a quick and easy thing to do. On my first day in Albuquerque while driving around scoping out the city…I found myself going right by the location.

But I already knew it was gone…recently stolen! You can read all about the theft by clicking this link…
http://www.seattlepi.com/default/article/Thief-steals-historic-Microsoft-plaque-3492634.php#photo-2833250

Here’s what was stolen…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

But I still wanted to see the location of this unique place so I stopped by 199 California Street and took this photo…

You can see where the plaque used to be. Nonetheless…it was interesting to see the place where Microsoft began.

Here’s a 1978 photo of the Microsoft staff. Would you have invested your money with this group???

The photo comes from the below link about the history of Microsoft…

As a full-time RVer I enjoy visiting historic places.

Fort Huachuca, Arizona (GA38)

Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort at Acton, California. I’m expecting to depart here March 27th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted March 3, 2012…

Yesterday Mary and I left the motorhome at the VFW parking lot in Sierra Vista, Arizona and visited the museum at Fort Huachaca (Wha-choo-ka) about 5 miles distant.

The fort was established in 1877 so the Army could protect settlers and those on their way to California from the Apache Indians. With the exception of a brief seven month shut-down, it has been in continuous operation since that time. It has been the home of the famous Indian Scouts and also the Buffalo Soldiers.

Here’s a Wikipedia link about the history of the fort…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Huachuca

The museum had lots of old photos, prints, paintings and statues. However, the museum was very dimly lit and the photography was difficult at best.

Here are some of the photos that I took…

Last evening we went into the VFW for their Friday night fish fry, While there we met both the manager and the commander. The manager told us they are…membership-wise..the largest VFW Post in Arizona and the third largest in the World! I guess it helps to be right night to a major military base. Also unusual about this Post was everyone was very friendly. A general rule of thumb is…the smaller the facility…the friendlier they are. Just goes to show there’s an exception to every rule!

This marks the end of our visit to Sierra Vista, Arizona. We’ll be moving along this morning.

It’s Been Awhile Since I’ve Seen One Of These…

I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 50 miles from Bremerton to Port Hadlock, Washington.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m several blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode within a couple of weeks.)

While in Shelton, Washington last week, I came across the Skyline Drive-in Theater. It was established in 1962. It’s been a number of years since I’ve seen one of these still in operation…

Founders’ Day Parade – Aberdeen, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
My RVing lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 22 miles from Ocean City to Aberdeen, Washington.

A local told me that during World War II, only two places were off-limits to military personnel, San Francisco, California and Aberdeen, Washington.

To read the interesting history about Aberdeen, click this link…https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberdeen,_Washington

Aberdeen is located at the eastern end of Grays Harbor as seen in the below Google earth image. The V marks the VFW…my current location.

Upon arrival, I parked the motorhome behind VFW Post #224…

I visited Aberdeen last week, stopped by the VFW and got recruited to march in the Founders’ Day Parade. Here’s the parade poster…

At 8:30 Am, I went inside the VFW post and had breakfast. At number of the other volunteer marchers were doing the same. 48 Killed In Action (KIA) banners had been removed from the wall so they could be carried in the parade…

Since I was a stranger in town, Jim Daley, a 10 year past commander of the post and a 22 year U.S. Marine Veteran drove me over to the parade beginning location…

The parade was about 3/4 mile long. The people clapped, cheered and yelled “Thank You”. At mid-point we stopped at the reviewing stand where a lady announced about the KIA banners. Taps was played on a bugle and I found myself close to tears…

I thank the friendly folks from VFW Post #224 for inviting me to join their parade. It was the first parade I had ever had the opportunity to march in and found it to be a very satisfying and emotional experience. I’m planning to depart Aberdeen next Wednesday.
I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Today’s blog entry shows a view of my current location. My spot is marked with a red dot. It is not real-time photo, in other words, it was taken some time in the past. The last section closest to the Ocean is currently closed to RV’s and is vacant. The bridge crossing the canal was declared unsafe by an engineering firm last October. Replacement of a new bridge awaits a permit from some governmental agency…
