Heron Lake State Park – New Mexico Day 52 (GA200)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I was scheduled to depart here October 26th. However, having lingered longer than usual, the weather has turned colder, so I’ll depart later this morning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!</div?

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted August 10, 2012…

The motorhome is still parked at Heron Lake State Park about 20 miles south of Chama, New Mexico while I am recovering from my May 27th accident. To read about my recovery status, click this link… https://otrwjam.wordpress.com/medical-condition-status-page/

I’ve been here for several weeks now and have photographed everything worth seeing within a 30 mile radius. One thing I do not seem to run out of is more beautiful sunsets…

A Look Around Sedro-Wooley, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’ve been here many times before. I’ll depart here September 25th.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about three weeks.)

Today’s subject…

About one month ago I was parked at Thousand Trails in Bow, Washington. While there I visited the quaint near-by city of Sedro-Wooley. Its claim to fame is that it is the only place in the whole world with that name. It also has a really neat ambience about it. A nice place!

Here are some of the photos that I took…

Los Algodones, Sonora, Mexico…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to be here a while hiding out from the cold, wet weather. Average temperatures in January are high 69.6, low 47.6. In February, high 73.8, low 50.1. As nice as Yuma is, I wouldn’t want to be here in August.  🙂

Los Algodones, Sonora, Mexico is only a few miles drive from Yuma, Arizona and every day during the winter season, thousands of snowbirds go there.

Back in 2012, Mary and I walked across the border into Los Algodones, Sonora, Mexico. Why did we do that…you ask? So Mary could visit her dentist.

It’s reputed that within a four block radius there are more pharmacies, doctors, dentists and opticians here, than a similar four block area anywhere else in the world! Daily thousands of American and Canadian Snowbirds visit Los Algodones. I’ve been here a number of times…Mary first went there with me in 2009.

It can take as long as 2-3 hours later in the day to wait in line to cross back into the United States. The secret is to go early…get your business done…leave early. I abandoned Los Algodones dentists a number of years ago. My dentist is now in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico…about 20 miles south of Yuma, Arizona. I visited him about two weeks ago.

Here are some photos I took while in Los Algodones…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Walking towards the border crossing…

If you bring guns or ammunition into Mexico…you may never be seen again…

Immediately after crossing into Los Algodones…

There are LOTS of signs like these all over Los Agodones…

Here’s photo of Mary in 2009 standing in front of her then dentist’s office…

Thanks to Mary and her oldest son Ken, her dentist now has a nice, new office…

Right next door to her dentist’s office is Maria’s Factory…

A pretty painted restaurant…

With a nice courtyard…

A typical street scene…

In a small central plaza…

Trinkets of all sorts can be found…

You can also watch artistic painters working with spray cans painting pretty scenes on satellite dishes…

We stopped at our favorite eating place. You can see Mary in the background…

You cannot beat the house policy…

After you are done eating you can step in the back to wash your hands…

Lots of places to buy booze…

Lots of pharmacies…

Another typical street scene…

And then you get in line to return to the United States. It wasn’t too bad…only about a twenty-minute wait…

Recently I’ve been running blogs about my 2004 Central America trip. While here I’m intending to continue those postings while also alternating with Yuma area blogs.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was partly sunny and 61 degrees. Forecast for today is partly sunny and 62 degrees.

Central America Trip #40

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California.

I’m planning to  depart November 30th. I’ve completed my repairs, routine maintenance and cleaning of both the Bronco and motorhome.

Since those activities are not particularly intriguing blog subjects, I’m taking you back to my…

2004 Central America trip…

This trip ended up being 343 days and 16,000+ miles through the back-country of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 11 rigs started the trip, within a week we broke into three smaller groups for ease of traveling. Only myself and one other rig went the full, pre-planned route. All the others dropped out for various reasons. All returned safely to the United States. I’m planning to show these photos, more or less, 10 a day, whenever I’m not doing something else deserving a blog entry. FINALLY, it must be remembered these photos are prior to my switching to digital in 2006. The films were developed during our trip and the lack of quality control sometimes is plainly evident.

Today…Costa Rica (south-bound) #2…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The jungles of Costa Rica were the most intense of the trip. The vibrant green almost hurts the eyes. The now subsided flow was responsible for washing out the road during the night. A road crew was just finishing repairs as we approached…

#418

We parked for the night just outside the gates of Arenal Volcano Park.. This 5,356 foot volcano is active and frequently emits red molten lava which you are supposed to be able to see at night. Unfortunately it’s rainy season and there were lots of clouds…so we missed any show…

#419

My tan is almost as dark as her’s…

#420

You can get really near to this active volcano. The road runs right along the base…

#421

A live active volcano at the end of Main Street in La Fortuna, Costa Rica…

#422

As the clouds cleared, we got a better look at Volcano Arenal…

#423

In this photo perspective, the active Volcano Arenal gives my motorhome the appearance of an old steam locomotive…

#424

The Rio (river) Fortuna waterfall which drops 225 feet…

#425

A closer view…

#426

We climbed the 531 steps to the pools at the bottom…

#427

With the water temperature at about 75 degrees we enjoyed a delightful swim and temporary relief from the relentless heat…

#428After climbing the 531 step up, we needed another refreshing swim!

Costa Rica proved to be my least favorite country in all of Central America!

Glass Museum – New Bedford, Massachusetts

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’ve been here a number of times before, so I’ve thoroughly seen all of the local tourist attractions. So, now I’m just hanging out enjoying the nice weather.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. The construction of Mary’s rental continues delay plagued. She now is hoping to rejoin me by early September.  😦

A more relaxed mode…

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, I have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months I will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless I do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Today’s Subject…Glass Museum – New Bedford, Massachusetts…
