The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart here tomorrow morning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted September 26, 2013…

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington.

Most of yesterday was dedicated to getting ready for today. Laundry day, etc… This morning I’ll drive Mary to SeaTac Airport south of Seattle. She has pressing business at home and needs to return early. After dropping her off, I’ll head to the Seattle VA Hospital for an eye and annual physical exam which I missed last year because I was in New Mexico.

I expect to arrive at Mary’s home with the motorhome not later than October 15th.

Not a lot of interesting activity yesterday. The only photos were of the Snohomish River taken from the motorhome kitchen window at dusk….

I’m A Happy Camper Once Again!!!!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart here May 9th.

If you follow my blog on a regular basis, you know that one of my primary goals is to be in 65-75 degree temps all year long. I’ve lived this way so long that my body has really become acclimated to this temperature range.

As a matter of fact Mary used to call me the weather wimp. Whenever it got out of the 65-75 temp range I’d start complaining.  🙂

Two days ago, I was an unhappy camper. The normal average high temperature for my current location is 74 degrees. The west coast is currently in an unusual early heat wave with temps running 15+ degrees above normal.

I had to air conditioner all set to run at 75 degrees.

Instead of starting, I heard two clicks and then an acrid smelling puff of smoke came out of my front ceiling vent. Not good!!!!

I tried to get it running. The fan was operating okay, the compressor would attempt to start, but stop after about five seconds. No cooling… not good!!!!

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Up on the roof I went to investigate. Here’s what the air conditioner shroud  looks like…

This is what the air conditioner looks like with the shroud removed…

I looked for obvious signs of what might be the problem… no luck.

So back into to the motorhome to get on the internet to do some research. After a couple of hours and several YouTube videos later, the problem appeared to be something called a start capacitor which jump-starts the compressor which creates the cool.

By then the temperature was in the mid 80’s. Too danged hot to go anywhere or get up on the roof again. Getting on the phone I found the part at an RV dealer in Yuba City, 20 miles distant.

By late in the day my weather station was indicting a temperature of 93 degrees!!!! With every fan I own on high, I struggled through a most uncomfortable day.

Early yesterday morning I was up on the roof to remove the suspected part. On the door of the capacitor area, was very red letters indicating… Shock Hazard Warning! Discharge capacitors properly. Failure to do so may result in high electric shock which can prove fatal!

Fortunately my YouTube videos showed how to do this properly, so I was able to remove the capacitor with no problems. Off to the RV dealer I went. I bought the part for $34.08. It was $20 on Amazon, but it was too danged hot to wait for a shipment.

Here’s what the part looks like…

It goes inside this compartment…

Here it is installed… the black thing closest to the edge…

I put everything back together and then it was time for the test!

Yes!!!! The air conditioner is working once again!

Once again yesterday’s outside temperature was 93 and inside was a comfortable 75.

Being somewhat of a tinkerer and assisted by my internet research, I was able to achieve the repair and saved myself some really big bucks!

I am a happy camper once again!!!!  🙂

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Forecast for today is sunny and 86 degrees. Too Danged Hot!

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 113 miles from Murphys to Nicolaus, California.

After some shopping at Costco for gas and groceries, I stopped to have the motorhome washed…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

My normal stop is at the 49er Truck Stop which has two wash bays. With several vehicles in front of me meant at least a three-hour wait, so I passed. I’ll find another place further down the road to get the motorhome washed…

Just for the record… I do not purposefully hunt these types of videos. They randomly present themselves as I watch general YouTube videos while eating my breakfast.

This is the 11th video which I guess is becoming a series about how politicians are destroying our beautiful country… in this case… once again excessive and inappropriate taxes.

Here’s an intelligent woman who calls herself The Patriotic Nurse offers her thoughts. The title of the blog is hers … not mine…

If you agree with this message, I encourage you to share it with your friends.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort in Manteca, California. I’m scheduled to depart here April 17th.

If you are an old person like myself, you remember the Burma Shave Road Signs.

A friend sent this to me in an Email and I thought I’d share it with you…

TRAINS DON’T WANDER
ALL OVER THE MAP
‘CAUSE NOBODY SITS
IN THE ENGINEER’S LAP
Burma Shave

SHE  KISSED THE HAIRBRUSH
BY MISTAKE
SHE THOUGHT IT WAS
HER HUSBAND JAKE
Burma Shave

Remember these?  For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs,
here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930’s and ’40’s.  Before there were interstates,
when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads,  Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers’ fields.  They were small red signs with white letters.
Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing 1 line of a 4 line couplet……
and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream.
Here are more of the actual signs:

DON’T LOSE YOUR HEAD
TO GAIN A  MINUTE
YOU NEED YOUR HEAD
YOUR BRAINS ARE IN IT
Burma  Shave

DROVE TOO LONG
DRIVER SNOOZING
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
 IS NOT AMUSING
Burma Shave

BROTHER SPEEDER
LET’S REHEARSE
ALL TOGETHER
GOOD MORNING, NURSE
Burma Shave

CAUTIOUS RIDER
TO HER  RECKLESS DEAR
LET’S HAVE LESS BULL
AND MORE STEER
Burma Shave

SPEED WAS HIGH
WEATHER WAS HOT
TIRES WERE THIN
X MARKS THE  SPOT
Burma Shave

THE MIDNIGHT RIDE
OF PAUL FOR BEER
LED TO A WARMER
HEMISPHERE
Burma Shave

AROUND THE CURVE
LICKETY-SPLIT
BEAUTIFUL CAR
WASN’T IT?
Burma Shave

NO  MATTER THE PRICE
NO MATTER HOW NEW
THE BEST SAFETY DEVICE
IN THE CAR IS YOU
Burma Shave

A GUY WHO DRIVES
A CAR WIDE OPEN
IS NOT THINKIN’
HE’S JUST HOPIN’
Burma Shave

AT INTERSECTIONS
LOOK EACH  WAY
A HARP SOUNDS NICE
BUT IT’S HARD TO PLAY
Burma Shave

BOTH  HANDS ON THE WHEEL
EYES ON THE ROAD
THAT’S THE SKILLFUL
DRIVER’S  CODE
Burma Shave

THE ONE WHO DRIVES
WHEN HE’S BEEN DRINKING
DEPENDS ON YOU
TO DO HIS THINKING
Burma Shave

CAR IN  DITCH
DRIVER IN TREE
THE MOON WAS FULL
AND SO WAS HE.
Burma Shave

and my all-time favorite:

PASSING SCHOOL ZONE
TAKE IT SLOW
LET OUR LITTLE
SHAVERS GROW
Burma Shave

DON’T STICK YOUR ELBOW
OUT SO FAR
IT MAY GO HOME
IN ANOTHER CAR.
Burma Shave

And finally one sent to me by another friend…

a man a miss
a car a curve
He kissed the miss
& missed the curve
Burma Shave
