The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart May 11th.

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

 

 

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

 

 

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

I always like to show the view from the dinette window…

 

 

I thought I would stay in Roma, Texas one more day, but I had finished with my business in the area, I had a poor and sporadic Internet signal and the temperature forecast was four degrees less in Harlingen than Roma, 84 instead of 88, those three factors made me move on down the road.

 

 

So I drove the motorhome the about 95 miles east-southeast to Harlingen, It was not a pleasant drive. During the entire trip I fought a 35 mile per hour with gusts to 50 miles per hour wind from out of the South which hit the motorhome broadside on the passenger side trying to push me into the next left lane. Since the wind was out of the South it was heavily laden with HUMIDITY! Consequently it proved to be a very tiring drive.

 

 

Today I’ll move into the Tropic Winds RV Resort about five miles away and expect to be there until January 10th. All part of my planned hibernation from the colder northern weather. We have a cold front coming into the area for a couple of days…high today is forecast at 67 degrees.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

 

 

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

The motorhome is parked at VFW Post #9175 in Roma, Texas. I expected to depart yesterday but the windshield glass chip repair service said the repair man couldn’t make it until yesterday. Now I’m expecting to depart here tomorrow.

 

 

Yesterday the first event of the day was the windshield rock chip repairman showing up to accomplish the job…

In yesterday’s Blog entry I discussed meeting my new friend Horatio. He introduced me to his dentist Dr. Alma Lidia Cantu de Graza. She lives in Roma, but her office is across the border in Ciudad Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico, population about 27,000. She met me in a nearby parking lot in Roma and we crossed the bridge over the Rio Grande. Pick-up trucks pay $3 for a one way passage. Pedestrians pay $.25 to walk across the bridge…

Her office is about one mile from the bridge and looks more like a house on the outside rather than an office…

 

 

 

 

 

It has a large waiting area…

She cleaned my teeth and repaired a damaged tooth. Here’s a banner for her services…

 

 

 

 

 

I shot this next photo through the glass window in her front door looking towards the outside…

 

 

 

 

 

She had one other patient which took about an hour. Then she went with me to the pharmacy and help me buy my sinus medication for which she had to write a prescription. The 40 tablets I purchased cost me $22.40…in the United States they would cost $275.00! Then we went to a small local eatery for lunch and then back to the bridge to return to the United States…

Yesterday, right around the corner where I’m currently parked, I found a small three-bay hand car wash. The Bronco was really dirty so I had it washed and also had the motor washed. The man only wanted $25 for 1.5 hours of work and I told him that wasn’t enough and gave him $40. Looking good now…

The man who owns the shop and did most of the work is on the left in the below photo and his assistant is on the right. In the middle is my new friend Horatio who invited me to his home for BBQ hamburgers last evening. That’s his truck in the background…

After lunch I walked around Old Roma taking photos which I will show you soon. In the late afternoon I went to Horatio’s home where I met his wife Denise and his two children as well as an assortment of nieces and nephews. As the evening wore on a number of other family and friends arrived which made for a most enjoyable evening. I so enjoy the Mexicans because they are so happy, friendly, helpful, good workers and family oriented…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 95 miles from Laredo to Roma, Texas. Driving south-southeast meant driving into the sun…not fun. Fortunately traffic was light…

Roma, Texas

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor has made the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

On March 24th, we drove the Bronco 104 miles (one way) to the VA Medical Center at Livermore, California for my eye exam which confirmed my cataract in my right eye. I was told I’m a candidate for surgery. I now await a phone call to establish an appointment for a consultation with an eye surgeon.

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Harlingen, Texas – Day 1

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical and personal business issues. She has made her airline reservations to join me at Harlingen, Texas on January 3, 2013.

The motorhome is parked at American Legion Post #205 in Harlingen, Texas.

I always like to show the view from the dinette window…

I thought I would stay in Roma, Texas one more day, but I had finished with my business in the area, I had a poor and sporadic Internet signal and the temperature forecast was four degrees less in Harlingen than Roma, 84 instead of 88, those three factors made me move on down the road.

So I drove the motorhome the about 95 miles east-southeast to Harlingen, It was not a pleasant drive. During the entire trip I fought a 35 mile per hour with gusts to 50 miles per hour wind from out of the South which hit the motorhome broadside on the passenger side trying to push me into the next left lane. Since the wind was out of the South it was heavily laden with HUMIDITY! Consequently it proved to be a very tiring drive.

Today I’ll move into the Tropic Winds RV Resort about five miles away and expect to be there until January 10th. All part of my planned hibernation from the colder northern weather. We have a cold front coming into the area for a couple of days…high today is forecast at 67 degrees.

For today’s photos I’m going to show you the Old Roma area near the Roma Bluffs that overlook the Rio Grande River and Cuidad Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico on the other side of the river. You can read about Roma, Texas by clicking this Wikipedia informational link…
