Yesterday Was Our Final Day… (GA107)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’ll depart here July 5th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted May 11, 2012…

of being tourists in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We had originally planned to depart Albuquerque next Monday, but finally decided we’ve seen all that is worth our time here in Albuquerque and will now leave on Saturday.

On our final tourist day we…

first went back to Old Town so Mary could get to see somethings she didn’t get to the other day. Since they were girlie-type things, I sat in the Bronco and read.

Then we went to the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park…right in the middle of Albuquerque. Here’s the official website link…
http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/prd/rgnc.htm

Here are some photos that I took…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The nature center has an unusual entrance…

I like creating patterns…

The viewing room…

which looks out at this…

the first signs of wildlife…

a couple of Canadian Geese…

we then took a walk along a .5 mile trail…but other than some ants and a few birds saw no other wildlife. Hey, after all, it’s in the middle of Albuquerque. Despite seeing little wildlife we both enjoyed the 1.5 hours of peace and quiet. Being in a large city is really noisy…that’s why I don’t like them.

Here’s a couple of shots of the entrance tunnel on the way out. Like I said earlier…I like creating patterns…

Then we went to see the Rio Puerco Bridge on old Historic Route 66 where I saw some more wildlife…Mary going through a barbed wire fence to fetch a couple of hub caps for her new totem pole back in California…

Here’s some photos of the bridge…

On the way back into town we got to see some older Route 66 Motels we didn’t get to see the other day…

and Jerry Unser’s (of the Unser racing family) old garage…

Finally we stopped at our favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch…

where I had two chicken tostadas…

This restaurant has the best tasting Mexican food ever! The salsa is SO GOOD…we bought a quart of it to take home. All in all…a nice final tourist day in Albuquerque.

Today we will dump the motorhome’s waste tanks and fill the fresh water and propane tank in preparation for tomorrow’s departure. In addition, laundry and food shopping will also get done.

New Front Shocks And Brake Pads For The Motorhome…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I am scheduled to depart November 28th. While here, I’ll do cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs to both vehicles.

Today’s Subject…New Front Shocks And Brake Pads For The Motorhome…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 30 miles to Sonora, California. Parts are hard to find for the motorhome and after several hours online, I finally figured it all out.

If you remember last year I took the motorhome to the same shop to have the fuel pump replaced. Good service, fair prices…reasons to return!

Here are some of the photos that I took…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

It’s a tight fit to back part-way in…

Only a few inches to spare…

dsc08078

The work begins…

dsc04659

The old brake pads had only about 1/4″ left. Not bad after 10 years and 61,355 miles…

dsc04661

The new brake pads are almost 1″ thick…

dsc04664

The old original shocks…

Are replaced with identical new shocks…

dsc04666

Miguel Nieves, the shop owner…did the work himself. He’s a very personable and knowledgeable guy. I liked the fact that his shop is a NAPA Car Care Center and he himself is an RV owner…

dsc08087

His shop is only about five miles north of Sonora, California. If you need a good mechanic while in that area…I can highly recommend him to you. He’s located at 20591 N. Sunshine Road, Sonora, California. His phone number is 209-533-4770.

It’s about an a hour’s drive back to Mary’s home and the motorhome ran just fine. In six days, I’ll depart Mary’s home to head to the sunny and warmer southland next Monday. It’s starting to get chilly around here. Time for me to get out of Dodge!!!

Coulee City, Washington

The motorhome is now parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort along the bank of the Skykomish River in Monroe, Washington. I’ve been here a number of times over the past years and always enjoy it here. My scheduled departure date is September 23rd.

I’m just hanging out taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

Mary’s personal to-do list plate, which can only be handled by herself, continues to over-flow. I’ll next likely see her when I arrive at her home in mid-October. A friend recently expressed a concern about the status of our relationship. Not to worry…it continues to function per our original agreement when we met in October, 2008. That is…I remain on the road and she will join me when her other life allows. We talk every day on the phone…sometimes more than once. It’s just the way life is!

A more relaxed mode…After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, I have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months I will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless I do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Today’s Subject…Coulee City, Washington…

North Jetty – Florence, Oregon

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails South Jetty RV Resort in Florence, Oregon. I’ve been here several times before. I plan to depart from here tomorrow. I’ll slow my pace and spend most of June along the Oregon coast. Then into the State of Washington for the summer.

Mary is dealing with her over-flowing to-do list plate which can only be handled by herself. I’m hoping she will be able to rejoin me sometime after July 4th.

Today’s subject…the North Jetty – Florence, Oregon…

In 2014, I drove along the north shore of the Siuslaw River to where it meets the Pacific Ocean. The first Google Earth image below shows this area…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…
