ON THE ROAD AGAIN.

DSC08214 (Copy)

We left yesterday morning moving west, headed for Pennsylvania. As we passed through Ivoryton and then Essex, we were stopped by their steam train which runs everyday, rain or shine. A fun excursion one can plan just for the ride or for weddings, dinner parties, wine tasting or an exclusive destination on their 17 mile route.

We also went to the Essex Laundromat, pretty unexciting except I’ve never seen such a friendly mat. The owners don’t toss lost clothing. A visitor has plenty of time to return and find a missing sock or shirt. And, you are welcome to take those that have not been claimed. DSC08219 (Copy)

Furthermore, they recycle, have a comfortable couch, tables and chairs for playing cards or games to while away your time, and scads of free books and magazines in a very clean atmosphere. Commendable.

On the road again, we traveled two stretches on the interstate, which is unusual for us. We crossed the Hudson River with a glimpse of the beautiful old mansions on the banks.

A patch of blooming purple lupine decorates the Highway in New York out of Albany. It surprises me how much rural green area we see in New York State. (We moved to an old highway and off the busy interstate.)

We passed through neat small towns in the Delaware Valley and I snapped a picture of a nicely decorated house. I admire the “gingerbread” on other people’s houses, but wouldn’t want to have to paint it.

This town was reinventing itself. While big industrial businesses were closed, we saw a tourist revival with sidewalk cafes and small cottage industries in the valley. Several painted critters I took to be beaver stood by the main street store fronts, but I’ve already forgotten the name of the town.

We stopped for gas at Turkey Bay where the price was $3.40 cents. In Connecticut we were paying $4.09. This sign is at $3.59 in Pennsylvania. Cigarettes advertised at state price minimums, which was listed at $5.18 a pack. Remember  Massachusetts with nearly $9.00 a pack?

We pulled in at our destination of Scottrun, Pennsylvania in an Outdoor World Campground  on a small lake.

We stopped by 3:00 p.m. knowing this will be the pattern as we have people to meet in Michigan, and then we push West for Washington, State, then South to California. I’m having difficulty walking and doing stairs again, moving very slowly. I’ll be locating a masseuse hopefully by Friday where we’ll have a two-day stop. We sat through the evening reading outside, enjoying the cooler weather.

Outdoor World Campground, Sturbridge, Massachusetts – Day 7

The motorhome is parked at the Outdoor World Campground in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. I expect to depart here later this morning.

Mary is back at  her home in California tending to some personal business. She has made her plane reservations and will fly to meet me in Boston, Massachusetts on July 30th.

I’ve been hiding out in the air-conditioning of the motorhome during a week-long heat wave which is supposed to end today. The temperature is supposed to be only 84 with humidity dropping down into the 50% range. Still too darn hot and humid for my liking!

The temperature when I arose at 5:00 AM was 69 degrees with 85% humidity. Here is the forecast for today…

It been so hot and humid I had the air-conditioning running 24 hours a day for the last three days. Good thing I like to read because that’s what I’ll spend most of my day doing!

Because of the excessive heat, I talk my daily walk at 5:30 AM. Lots of bugs and mosquitoes are out at that time of the day.

This campground has a nice pond which is very still at 5:30 AM. This Google Earth image shows the pond…
