Service The Generator Day

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. I expect to be here until shortly after Thanksgiving cleaning and doing minor work on both the motorhome and Bronco. After our 682 day journey, they are both ready for some attention.

For most of 2013, I’ve complained about the weather…too hot and humid or too cold. Now that I’m back in Murphys the weather is finally nice….although they had a hotter than usual summer here. Extended forecast is really nice for the next several days, so it’s time to get my outdoor work done on the motorhome and Bronco.

Yesterday’s chore was to service the generator. A generator is a source of 110 volt power when you do not have a land-base source. Ours runs on gasoline from the motorhome’s gas fuel tank. It draws the gas using a special tube pulling the gas from the tank that goes only about 3/4’s of the way down to avoid using all the fuel leaving none to run the engine. Ours is a Onan 4000 Watt MicroQuiet model and is started and stopped from a switch on the motorhome interior dashboard.

Yesterday I replaced the air filter, did an oil change and changed the spark plug. It has no oil filter. Another 2 hours on my knees, bending over after the 10 hours recently spent working up on the roof, has left my legs, arms, back and neck muscles complaining. I’m not as young as I used to be!  🙂
