Old Town – Barstow, California

The motorhome is parked at the Idle Spurs Restaurant in Barstow, California. I expect to be here for another day or two.

Mary continues to be occupied with personal business. I am now not expecting to see her again until I arrive at her home in Murphys, California about the third week in April. It’s just the way things are and we just have to deal with it.

Barstow has an interesting history. Through it has run the Old Spanish Trail, The Mormon Trail, The Mojave Trail and The Beale Wagon Road. Perhaps its most famous claim to fame is that is was on Old Historic U.S. Highway Route 66.

In Old Town, there are a number of nice murals depicting some of this history on Main Street, aka Route 66. Here are a few of them…

Thousand Trails Medina Lake RV Resort, Lakehills, Texas – Day 7

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues. She had successful carotid artery surgery on Wednesday, November 14th,  returned home the following day and is in the process of recuperation.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails about 40 miles west of San Antonio.

Two days ago I took the Bronco and drove the about 20 miles back to Bandera, Texas. I say back to, because I drove through Bandera on the way to my current parking spot at Thousand Trails with the motorhome, but did not stop.

Bandera calls itself…The Cowboy Capital of the World. You can read about Bandera by clicking this link…
http://www.banderacowboycapital.com/index.cfm

Since I’ll be at Thousand Trails for another about two weeks and all I have to show from there are deer photos, I’m going to stretch out the photos I took in Bandera over three days. For this second day, some photos of downtown Bandera…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The major intersection of Bandera…

where they still ride horses on Main Street…

where, if you’ve nothing better to do,, you grab your guitar and sing songs for passers-by…

where If you are hungry, you wander into the O.S.T. (Old Spanish Trail) Restaurant that has been there since 1921…

where they have saddles for seats at the no-liquor or beer eating bar…

where they have a Chuck Wagon buffet bar…

where they are still doing a lively business in the mid-afternoon…

and where I enjoyed a great tasting Tex-Mex meal of two chicken Chalupas…

Enjoying Cowboy towns is another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!

Mississippi Thru Alabama Into Florida In One Day

Jim says: Not a particular big deal…as it was only about one hundred miles. Near the Gulf of Mexico, the State of Alabama (the way the crow flies) is only about 50 miles wide.

I left Gautier, Mississippi about 8:30 AM…traveling on U.S. Highway 90 East. once again…little traffic.

In Mississippi.

After about 30 minutes, I crossed into Alabama.

The sign says “Welcome To Alabama”.

The roads in Alabama continued to be good with little traffic.

I crossed Mobile Bay on this bridge.

The World War II Battleship Alabama is permanently moored at Mobile Bay. I’ve been on Battleships before, so I didn’t stop.

For the first time in a while, I actually encountered some rolling hills.

In the American Legion big parking lot.

The Pensacola, Florida American Legion parking lot has 30 amp electrical service. It’s free for the first two nights and then $5 a night. Maximum stay is seven days. With so much to see in this area, I just may stay here a full week. Weather was mostly sunny and 72 degrees.
