The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Conner, Washington. I’ll depart here September 10th..

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Note: Mary flew from Baton Rouge Airport, Louisiana on March 12 to her home in California. I’m hoping to get her back with me by mid-April. My current plans are to drift SLOWLY north along the Mississippi River to Memphis, Tennessee where I’ll then turn northeast heading for New England for the Summer. Can’t go north too fast because it’s still cold up there! The Mississippi River is rich in history…I expect it to be an interesting passage.

The motorhome is still parked at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1662 in Natchez, Mississippi. Yesterday’s forecasted thunderstorms never did happen. Morning fog hung around until late morning. Nice afternoon. I expect to leave Natchez today.

 

 

Natchez remained mostly undamaged from the Civil War. Hence this old city with its narrow and many one-way streets remains a beautiful city. To read about Natchez, click this link…

Besides allowing photography it is unique because it is the first of the many mansions in the Natchez antebellum period…it also has a freestanding wooden circular staircase…

 

 

You saw the above photo in yesterday’s entry. However..you did not see the creative photography of this unique staircase. I love playing with my camera and one of the funnest things to photograph is patterns as shown in the below photos…

Needing to get out of the motorhome for some fresh air and exercise, I decided to take the five-minute drive back across the Mississippi River to Vidalia, Louisiana and walk along the riverfront. Here I was able to photograph Natchez across the river and both bridges. Because of high noontime harsh sun which makes for flat photographs…I shot them in the watercolor mode which makes for a more enjoyable final result. So, yesterday was the final time to walk upon Louisiana soil for this year. Thanks for a great 2013 visit, Louisiana! It also completes a very enjoyable 15 day visit to the Natchez area. Thanks, Natchez!

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

In Natchez there are many antebellum mansions…all of whom have a no photography rule. So instead of patronizing and giving free publicity to those places…I instead visited the only one without a photography ban.

 

 

It’s called the Auburn Museum and Antebellum Home…circa 1812.. My thanks to Clark Feiser for making a special trip to open the home exclusively for my photographic purposes and a detailed history of the property. As far as I’m concerned…if you like photographic images of special places you visit…the Auburn Museum and Antebellum Home is the one to choose in Natchez. I’ve been in many old mansions in my years on the road and most have struck me as being cold and sterile. Not so with Auburn…it has a nice comfortable homey feeling.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Note: Mary flew from Baton Rouge Airport, Louisiana on March 12 to her home in California. I’m hoping to get her back with me by mid-April. My current plans are to drift SLOWLY north along the Mississippi River to Memphis, Tennessee where I’ll then turn northeast heading for New England for the Summer. Can’t go north too fast because it’s still cold up there! The Mississippi River is rich in history…I expect it to be an interesting passage.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about two miles to the Historic Natchez Foundation building located at 108 Commerce Street where their motto is…Keeping Natchez the place you can always come home to…

 

 

Executive Director Mimi Miller and her able assistant Patricia Catchings graciously allowed me access to their photographic archives. I told them I was particularly interested in that area known as Natchez Under The Hill…along the Mississippi River waterfront.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about two miles to Main Street hoping to catch the essence of the downtown Natchez area in photographs. It was a sunny, windy and cold day. I parked the Bronco on the corner of Main and Union Streets and started walking the about six blocks west towards the Mississippi River.

I reach Bluff Park which overlooks the Mississippi River. From my view-point I can see another steamboat has arrived. The second riverboat in the background is the Isle of Capri Floating Casino which stays permanently moored in that spot. In the early 1960s, after the admission of James Meredith as the first black to the University of Mississippi, Natchez was the center of Ku Klux Klan activity opposing integration and the civil rights movement. E. L. McDaniel, the Grand Dragon of the United Klans of America, the largest Klan organization in 1965,^[21] had his office in Natchez at 114 Main Street. In August 1964, McDaniel established a klavern of the UKA in Natchez, operating under the cover name of the Adams County Civic and Betterment Association.
