Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico (GA72)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I expect to leave here May 8th. While here, I’ll be doing routine maintenance, repairs and general cleaning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 20 miles from Lake Caballo State Park to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico where I am parked at Moose Lodge #2050…

Along the way the ABS light on the motorhome dash came on. Grrr…

While not earthshaking it stills need to be looked at to find out what the problem is. In the afternoon I took it to a local garage recommended by the administrator of the Moose Lodge. Since they do not regularly work on motorhomes…they were unable to locate the computer port to diagnosis the problem. So I have a 9:00 AM appointment at the local Chevrolet dealership this morning. I hate going to dealerships because they rape you financially…but a person has got to do what a person has to do.

You can read all about Truth or Consequences and how it got its unusual name by clicking this Wikipedia link…

I expect to be in this area for several days. I’m less than 150 miles from Albuquerque where I’m hoping Mary will be flying in to meet me up with me once again in about 2-3 weeks. So I’m kind of pacing myself for that event.

Yesterday we drove about 30 miles and moved to about 10 miles south of Tucson, Arizona.

We are parked in the rear parking area of Moose Lodge #1964 where we have electric, water and sewer hookups. It’s nice to have electrical plug-in even though we have solar panels. The forecast for the next several days is cooler and cloudier normal and running our electric ceramic heater to stay warm is a nice plus. Moose clubs do not charge to park…but donations are always welcome. We are more than happy to donate for the convenience and comfort they provide.

At 5:00 PM yesterday we went into the Moose club for happy hour. Since this is a smaller club there were only about 25 friendly people there. We enjoyed a nice all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner for only $6.00. The portions were so large only one helping was necessary.

We expect to be here for several days while we explore some of the local attractions

Redding, California

Mary is traveling with her 14-year-old grandson on a trip to Turkey. I expect her to catch up with me sometime in mid-May somewhere in Oregon.

Yesterday I drove the 131 miles from Nicolaus to Redding, California. Most of the trip was on California Highway 99, a much more pleasant drive than yesterday’s drive on Interstate Highway 5. Much of 99 passes through miles of orchards…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Along the way I stopped at a couple of GoodWill stores to buy some used books to add to my waiting-to-be read collection. Arriving at Redding, I parked at Moose Lodge #1006…

Yesterday was a sunny day at 95 degrees. Forecast for Redding today is sunny at 95 degrees. Too dang hot! This morning I’m heading due west to the California coast to escape this terrible heat. The forecast for my destination of McKinleyville is only 60 degrees. A little cool but much better than this horrible heat!

Bakersfield, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 115 miles from Acton to Bakersfield, California. I parked overnight at Moose lodge #2178. I’ll depart later this morning.

Mary is at home tending to personal matters. I expect to arrive there tomorrow.

I’ve had a change of plans. Instead of drifting along the central California coast this Spring, I’m headed to Mary’s home. Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. It’s always been difficult getting to that VA Hospital, so I’ve made arrangements to change to a local VA Clinic in Sonora, California…about 25 miles from Mary’s home. My appointment to meet my new primary care doctor is on March 7th who will make the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected.

Along the way yesterday, I passed through Mojave, California. When Mary and I passed through Mojave three years ago, we experienced the big blow! In the distance of 1/2 mile…three 18-wheelers were on their sides. You can read about that experience by clicking this link… http://wp.me/pDCku-1hV

Springfield, Oregon

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 95 miles from Wilsonville to Springfield, Oregon.

My day started with an aggravation. Some jerk parked directly in my planned exit route and his truck was still there when I wanted to leave yesterday morning. Since he was the only vehicle in the Moose parking lot, it sure looks like he did it on purpose. Since a motorhome cannot backup with a towed vehicle, I was forced to unhook the Bronco, back it and the motorhome and re-hookup. Thanks Pal!

I thought strongly about letting all the air out of his tires to thank him. Instead I left a note on his windshield. I was going to tell him in graphic language what I thought of him, but after talking to Mary she got me to tone down my planned language. WOMAN SOOTHES THE SAVAGE BEAST!  :)…

With another cold night in yesterday’s forecast I needed to find another place where I knew I could get an electrical hookup to run my electric heater. The Moose Lodge at Springfield is the last place I know of heading south on Interstate Highway 5 in Oregon.

I departed at 8:40 AM driving in fog which became denser as I drove further south and stayed with me to Springfield…

DSC07177

By time I arrived in Springfield a little after 11:00 AM, it was a cold 46 degrees with heavy fog…

DSC07178

Arriving at Moose Lodge #1726, the only way to plug into electricity was to once again unhook the Bronco and back in to the narrow space. Fortunately there are not a lot of RV’s here…

Here’s the usual dinette window photo…

DSC07180

I spent the afternoon reading, taking a nap, doing some computer work and visiting with the local Moose members. I’ll continue my southerly journey later this morning. Google Earth is telling me I’ve got 557 miles to go until I arrive at Mary’s home at Murphys, California.

The sun finally broke through the fog by mid-afternoon.Yesterday’s high temperature was 65 degrees with partly cloudy/sunny skies. At 5:00 AM when I arose thus morning it was 41 degrees! Brrr! Time to continue putting on some miles heading south!

Last night I watched another old movie from the 1930’s. This time it was 1931 – The Public Enemy starring James Cagney. Another classic!

Enjoying friendly Moose clubs is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Wilsonville, Oregon

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 145 miles from Lacey, Washington to Wilsonville, Oregon.

I departed at 8:10 AM driving in fog which became dense at times and stayed with me until I crossed into Oregon…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

I took Interstate Highway 205…the by-pass around Portland, Oregon. There was so much traffic on 205, I wondered if anyone was using Interstate Highway 5 through Portland…

DSC07164

After three hours of intense and dangerous driving ( I hate Interstate Highways…but sometimes you have to use them if you want to make any progress in a timely manner), I arrived tired and parked overnight at Moose Lodge #1598 in Wilsonville where they provided an electrical connection so I could use my electric heater…
