Have You Ever Seen A Big One Like This????

The motorhome is parked at Moose Club #2178 in Bakersfield, California. I’ll depart later this morning.

Usually I stay here only one day during my north to south and south to north migrations. This time I decided to stay an extra day.

The day started with plans to visit the Buck Owens Crystal Palace Museum. Stupidly I did not check their open hours before departure and they surprised me by not being open until Wednesday after I’ll be gone. Oh well, some other time.

Since I was so close I decided to wander around downtown Bakersfield. Sadly there is little to get exited about here. But despite that fact, look at what I did find…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The world’s largest Woolworth’s store.. Built in 1939, it has four floors of a  total of 55,000 square feet. When did you last see a Woolworth’s? It’s been many years for me and certainly not this big…

Instead of the usual stuff you’d usually find in a Woolworth’s, this one is an antique mall full of thousand of unusual consignment items for sale…

It also has a 76 foot dairy bar that can seat 36 patrons. Largest dairy bar I’ve ever seen…

You can read about this place by clicking this link… here

You can also see the other 11 photos I took by clicking this link… here

When you opened this blog, I’ll bet you were thinking something big was like a hot dog or something like that. Fooled ya!  🙂

Have a fun day!

Enjoyed at great taco salad at the Moose Club yesterday afternoon.

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

Forecast for today is mostly cloudy and 68 degrees.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 113 miles from Acton to Bakersfield, California.

I’ve had a previous experience with high winds in this area in 2011. Here’s my blog link from that event…

And Mary’s blog from that event…

So, instead of lingering, I beat feet over the hill 4,062 of elevation and into Bakersfield.

Yesterday’s trip was very pleasant…essentially no wind.

I arrived in Bakersfield and parked at Moose Club #2178. I have parked here on my way going south and north for a number of years. Nice electric hookup here allows me a convenient and comfortable stay at this active and friendly club.

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I may be here until March 4th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted August 14, 2013…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 243 miles from Scotrun to Clarion, Pennsylvania. 99.9% of the trip was on Interstate Highway 80. At about mile marker 111.0 we passed the highest elevation of Route 80 east of the Mississippi River at 2,250 feet. Clarion is at 1,475 feet. At 5:30 AM this morning it was a cool 49 degrees. Delightful!

The first hour of yesterday’s trip was in the rain. For the rest of the day it remained mostly cloudy with a high temperature of 73 degrees and humidity of 53%. Much more enjoyable weather than I have experienced for some time.

We will continue our westerly travels later this morning.

Murphys To Bakersfield, California

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 245 miles from Murphys to Bakersfield, California.

I departed Mary’s home in Murphys, CA yesterday morning shortly after 8:00 AM. The temperature was only 46 degrees…

After 2 hours and 75 miles later,, I finally got on U.S. Highway 99 at Merced which I traveled another 214 miles and arrived in Bakersfield, CA. I’m parked at Moose Lodge #2178 where it’s relatively quiet and I have an electrical hookup. It was also Taco Tuesday evening at the Moose Lodge where I enjoyed a HUGE AND DELICIOUS taco salad for only $3…  🙂

As usual, the view from the dinette window…

DSC07892

Along the way, my installs worked just fine. My tire pressure monitoring system…

And my smartphone which fit very nicely into driver’s side cup holder. I used the GPS system which was very accurate on my GPS assisted drive…

At elevation 408 feet in elevation here in Bakersfield, CA, it’s only a little bit warmer than Murphys, CA. It was 70 degrees when I arrived late afternoon yesterday and it was 50 degrees when I awoke at 5:00 AM this morning. Fortunately with an electrical hookup I can use my electric heater to keep warm. The motorhome has a gas furnace but it’s not terribly efficient and just gobbles the expensive propane gas.

I’ll head out once again later this morning.

I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Forecast for today is sunny and 76 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Winchester, West Virginia Day 1 (GA497)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart here November 7th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted May 21, 2013…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 140 miles from Grafton, West Virginia to Winchester, Virginia. Due to the configuration of state boundaries along the way we passed through Maryland for only eight miles. During that time we crested the highest point on U.S.Highway 50 in the east…Backbone Mountain at 3,095 feet elevation.

For numerous miles and in numerous places the road remained very narrow curvy and rough. It’s been many years since the original pavement and over the years patch upon patch has been applied with no apparent concern for smoothness of the finished product. Many times our speed was to be required to be less than 20 miles per hour.

Here are some of the photos I took along the way…

I had originally planned to spend the night in Romney, West Virginia about 40 miles west of Winchester. However, both the American Legion and Moose parking lots were too small with uneven grade. So we continued on to Winchester where we are parked at the rear of Moose Lodge #1283…

Where they have a delightful bank of tall trees to the west where we can hide from the blazing afternoon sun. Here’s the usual dinette window photo…

Yesterday it was 86 degrees with 87 forecast for today and 86 tomorrow with equivalent humidity. Too danged hot and humid for my liking!!!

We expect to depart on Thursday.

Enjoying wide and smooth roads with no 18 wheelers is another joy of the full-timing lifestyle!
