Castle Dome Ghost Town/Mining Museum

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at the Paradise Casino in Yuma, Arizona. I was expecting to leave here tomorrow, but I’ve changed my mind. I currently have reservations at Thousand Trails in Palm Desert, California, February 21st. Between now and then???? For the moment I remain in Yuma.

I just love the ability to change plans at a moments notice. As I tell everyone…All my plans are firmly etched in Jello!

This blog was first posted in January, 2008…

Since I’ve been coming to the Yuma area for a number of years during the Winter, I’ve explored the area pretty thoroughly. Rather than re-visit each place again, I’ve decided to show photos I’ve taken in the past. All these places are within about a one-hour drive from Yuma.

About 50 miles north of Yuma, AZ, out in the middle of nowhere is the Castle Dome Mining/Ghost Town Museum.

In January 2008, I spent three-plus hours wandering through the 20+ restored buildings depicting a gone-by lifetime. The primary products of the 300+ mines spread over a 10-mile area was silver and lead. Mining began in 1862 and operated in some manner until 1979. A most interesting glimpse into the past.

Historical Walking Tour – Murphys, California

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I am scheduled to depart November 28th. While here, I’ll do cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs to both vehicles.

Today’s Subject…Historical Walking Tour – Murphys, California…

Murphys is an old gold mining town. Rich in gold and rich in history, it has become a tourist town. A week ago Saturday I participated in the weekly Historical Walking Tour. Docent Jo Safford led the walk and provided us with lots of little known facts about the history of Murphys. This will be the last blog of the Murphys series for this visit and contains the last miscellaneous photos you have not seen in previous blogs.

Here are some of the photos that I took…

Castle Dome Mining/Ghost Town Museum

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to be here a while hiding out from the cold, wet weather. Average temperatures in January are high 69.6, low 47.6. In February, high 73.8, low 50.1. As nice as Yuma is, I wouldn’t want to be here in August.  🙂

Since I’ve been coming to the Yuma area for a number of years during the Winter, I’ve explored the area pretty thoroughly. Rather than re-visit each place again, I’ve decided to show photos I’ve taken in the past. All these places are within about a one-hour drive from Yuma. Today’s location is about 20 miles west of my current parking location and the photos were taken in January, 2008.

Recently I’ve been running blogs about my 2004 Central America trip. While here I’m intending to continue those postings while also alternating with Yuma area blogs.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Castle Dome Mining/Ghost Town Museum

The motorhome is now parked at the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven, California right across the Colorado River from Yuma, Arizona. I’m here with my friend Randy Vining and others…hanging out and enjoying the nice weather.

Mary is tending to business at home and is now expecting to rejoin me here in late January.

Since I’ve been coming to the Yuma area for a number of years during the Winter, I’ve explored the area pretty thoroughly. Rather than re-visit each place again, I’ve decided to show photos I’ve taken in the past. All these places are within about a one-hour drive from Yuma.
