Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues. She had successful carotid artery surgery on Wednesday, November 14th,  returned home the following day and is in the process of recuperation.

On Day 1 of this current Blog entries, I wrote about the abundance of black-tail deer there are here in this campground. I also indicated that consequently during this current Blog sequence you will being seeing lots of deer photos. Today is such the case…

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails about 40 miles west of San Antonio. It’s the largest RV resort company with 80 locations nationwide, of which Mary and I are members.

I’m beginning my “Winter hibernation” by hiding out from colder weather with a three-week stay, departing not later than December 10th. After my stay here, I’ll head even further south until I reach the Rio Grande River and the border of Mexico to hide out from the colder Winter weather.

I haven’t been in San Antonio since 1979, so I may take a day-trip or two there while I’m here. Other than that I’ll just be hanging around reading and doing area photography. I’ll be supplementing my daily Blog with RV related topics that I’ve accumulated over the past year.

It’s interesting how nature has provided the deer with coloring that helps them blend in with the local vegetation. Here is an example…

In the first photo below, about 15 feet from the motorhome are four deer. Can you see them???…

Had this eye test chart for seniors…

In other news…

I haven’t been in San Antonio (about 40 miles away) since 1979, so I may take a day-trip or two there while I’m here. Other than that I’ll just be hanging around reading and doing area photography. I’ll be supplementing my daily Blog with RV related topics that I’ve accumulated over the past year.

Yesterday I had a loyal reader send me an Email that said in part…

My suggestion:   Instead of having all of us readers scurrying around to find the atlas and locate you in your wanderings in Texas and elsewhere,  how about posting a map, not a Google map, but a real one that shows where you are geographically?  That would keep me and maybe others from having to listen to our own mutterings “He’s in so-and-so place.   Now where the hell is so-and-do?  Never heard of it!”

So, I agreed to try if it wasn’t to big of a hassle. The red dot on the below map shows my approximate location in the State of Texas. You may double left-click the map to make it larger…

Now you do not have to try to find me on your atlas!

Enjoying easy-to-see Ramblin’ Man current locations without having to use an atlas is another joy of the RV lifestyle!

Yesterday I took a walk along a bit of the shoreline of Medina Lake…to see the lake. There was no lake…at least from what I could see. The first photo below is a Google Earth image of Medina Lake. It is not a real-time image. Looking in the lower left corner you can see it was taken March 31, 2008…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The pin marks the location of the motorhome. The curved yellow line is where I walked along the shore. From where I walked, I could see no water. I suspect there is still some water in the lake further south beyond my vision range. Here’s a current view of the boat launch ramp…

As you can see, there’s been no water here for a while as the Southwest has been in drought conditions for some time now. Here’s a photo from a National Geographic article about the drought…

It is not a pretty story or situation.

Here’s another photo of my camping spot…

Weather forecast for today is partly sunny and 78 degrees…pretty nice!

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 50 miles from Kerrville to Lakehills, Texas. This location is about 40 miles northwest of San Antonio.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails. the largest RV resort company with 80 locations nationwide, of which Mary and I are members. I’ll begin my “Winter hibernation” by hiding out from colder weather with a three-week stay, departing not later than December 10th. After my stay here, I’ll head even further south until I reach the Rio Grande River and the border of Mexico to hide out from the colder Winter weather.

Along my way yesterday, I passed through the scenic Texas Hill Country…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Upon arrival at the campground and was in the process of locating my camping spot, I was greeted by a six-point black tail deer…

The RV resort is 260 acres with 357 camping sites. My location is level, partially shaded and very quiet…

As always, I like to show the view from the dinette window…

This is Deer country!

There are so many deer here, the welcoming paper work has two sheets of paper about them. The first one says…

Please DO NOT touch the fawns.

The majority of the fawns are born in late May through the end of June. Mother deer often give birth at night in areas, such as your campsite or the surrounding area. Does will often not return to their fawns until well after dark. DO NOT touch the fawns! This could cause the mother reject it. Keep yourself, your children and pets away from them. Enjoy looking at them from a distance. For the first 5 days after birth, fawns will not run when approached. Instead they will exhibit “freeze behavior”. They lie still when approached. From the 7th day on, fawns will exhibit “flight behavior” on approach. By one month fawns venture out to browse with their mothers.

The second sheet of paper says…

Mating Season For Deer

It’s mating season for the deer. Please use extreme caution when approaching the deer while they are feeding as they are very unpredictable.

I wasn’t here very long before I started seeing lots of deer. In the 18 hours I’ve been here, I’ve seen more wild deer than I have all the rest of my life combined. Certainly more than 100. Obviously they are protected here, not hunted and used to human presence. As a matter of fact while reading outside yesterday afternoon, a doe came along and lay down on the ground only about 10 feet away from me. You’ll be seeing lots of deer photos from me during my time here!

I haven’t been in San Antonio since 1979, so I may take a day-trip or two there while I’m here. Other than that I’ll just be hanging around reading and doing area photography. I’ll be supplementing my daily Blog with RV related topics that I’ve accumulated over the past year.

If You Like Deer…Lookee Here!

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor has made the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

My new eye exam date has now been rescheduled for tomorrow, March 24th.

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

To read about today’s photo album location, click this link… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medina_Lake

To see the Deer and other wildlife…

CLICK ON THE BELOW PHOTO. ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE PHOTO ALBUM, SIMPLY CLICK “SLIDESHOW” AND ENJOY!
