The motorhome is parked in Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’m scheduled to depart here June 2nd.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 148 miles from Medford, Oregon to Redding, California.

The day started sunny and clear, but as I drove south on Interstate Highway 5, I began climbing the steep grade to the Siskiyou Mountains Pass at elevation 4,310 which was shrouded in low clouds and is the highest elevation on Interstate Highway 5…

I’m pleased to report that even during the very steep climb up the Siskiyou Pass, the newly refurbished motorhome cooling system performed flawlessly. The needle of the heat gauge never moved off of the normal position. The motorhome pulled this very steep climb without even thinking about raising a sweat!

I spent the afternoon reading, taking a nap, doing some computer work and visiting with the local Moose members. I’ll continue my southerly journey later this morning. Google Earth is telling me I’ve got 247 miles to go until I arrive at Mary’s home at Murphys, California.

A Walk And Then Shop

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s rental property in Wimer, Oregon.

Change of plans…

2015 is proving to be an overwhelming year for Mary. Her to-do plate is overflowing. Among the many things requiring her time is the completion of construction of a rental property in Wimer (13 miles north of Rogue River), Oregon.

Mary arrived here two days ago here for a few days of hands-on involvement, then will return home to continue dealing with her over-flowing plate.

I’m here until Wednesday after which I’ll head for the Oregon Pacific Coast for about a six-week visit and then into the State of Washington for the summer. My primary goals are to stay in 65-75 degree weather and take maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership.

We are now hoping for Mary to rejoin me on the road sometime after July 4th. Our planned trip to Yellowstone National Park and Wyoming will hopefully now occur after the Labor Day holiday.

Yesterday…in the morning we took about a 30 minute walk around some of Mary’s 7 acres. Here are a few photos that I took…

After the walk we drove 32 miles to Home Depot in Medford, Oregon. We spent four hours shopping for light fixtures and hardwood flooring. Because of my USS Boston cap we got her a 10% military discount which amounted to nearly $500. See Mary smile 🙂

We hauled the lighting fixtures back in Mary’s car…flooring to be delivered in a week…

Medford, Oregon – Day 2

The motorhome is still parked  at Eagles Club #2093 at Medford, Oregon. When I left here yesterday morning, I didn’t know I’d be back for another night.

Yesterday morning I drove the motorhome south eight miles to a garage where I had an 8:00 AM appointment…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC07204

The motorhome is a 2006 model year, but the chassis was built in August 2005. That means the cooling system and heater hoses were more than eight years old. The manual for the motorhome says to change after five years, but somehow I overlooked it.

The mechanic told me they were ready to be changed. I expected to be on the road by noon, however the garage had problems finding the right hoses and I didn’t leave the garage until after 3:00 PM.

The next stage of the trip is to arrive at Redding, California which is 148 miles crossing over the Siskiyou Mountains that reach over 4,000 feet elevation rather quickly. I always set aside fours hours to make this journey and I no longer care to drive after dark, so I chose to stay in Medford another night.

Another factor in staying is whenever you open a vehicle’s coolant system, you need to assure that there are no remaining air pockets as the engine may overheat especially when climbing a steep grade like I’ll do this morning. By driving the motorhome to the Eagles Club and then back to the garage this morning so they can recheck their work, should remove any remaining air pockets. I expect only a brief stop and should be climbing the mountain range by 10:00 AM.

They allowed me to stay in the motorhome yesterday while the work was being done with the provision I did not leave it and be in the work area. In the next photo you can see the hole on the floor where the mechanic gains access to the top of the engine. The remaining work is done by crawling under the engine on the ground. It was a nasty job that I could have done, but would rather pay others to do it…

DSC07205

In this garage they repair the big 18 wheeler tractors. If you have never seen under the hood what they look like, you can now as seen from my motorhome yesterday…

DSC07210

I spent the remainder of afternoon reading, taking a nap, doing some computer work and visiting with the local Eagles members. I’ll continue my southerly journey later this morning. Google Earth is telling me I’ve got 393 miles to go until I arrive at Mary’s home at Murphys, California.

Last night I watched another old movie from the 1930’s. This time it was 1931 – Cimmaron starring Irene Dunne.. Another classic!
