The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’ll depart here later this morning.

If you are a regular follower of this blog, you know that my ex-travel partner/companion has not traveled with me since September 2014 and that we remain good friends.

You will also know she is dealing with colon cancer issues.

Prior to today, this had been her last communique dated March 14th…

https://otrwjam.wordpress.com/2019/03/14/one-year-ago-today-4/

Yesterday I received another email which follows below. In a phone conversation yesterday she told me that after her first round of chemo, one tumor had shrunk 53% and the second 70%. Certainly good news!

Here’s yesterday’s email sent to family and friends…

Hi everyone,

I’ve signed on with Dr. Cho at the Cal. St. University of Davis, Cancer Center in Sacramento.
I’ve had two appointments with Dr. Cho and she uses a drug called Keytruda, which is, like chemo, not a sure cure, but with continuous treatments over a period of years, it can extend your life, maybe enough to get to a place where immunotherapy using DNA modification is actually available to the general public. IF the Keytruda works? It works for 40 % of people who try it. One infusion every three weeks and no more chemo-which is very hard on older people-Dr. Cho informed me.
Keytruda has many side effects, some are really horrible, but for others they are mild. Or, maybe it just isn’t working for me. I won’t know until my sixth session on Keytruda. It doesn’t kill healthy cells, a great plus. So, after one infusion, I have a bit of nausea and my food doesn’t taste like it is supposed to. It is so little for such a chance to gain so much.
In the meantime, I’ve decided to hire a woman to help me with my genealogy, so it will actually get finished in a timely manner. I’m doing, the Dionnes, the Moores and the Matzeks. All three. And, I enjoy the doing.

So, there you have what I consider good news. Hope is always good news. I’m sure I’m benefiting from all of your prayers.

I hope you enjoyed the message.

Forecast for today is sunny and 86 degrees. Too danged hot for me…time to move on!

New destination forecast is sunny and 64 degrees.

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!

One Year Ago Today…

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’m scheduled to depart here March 19th.

One year ago today was the last time Mary posted a blog entry on this blog-site. There are number of reasons associated with this statement. Home and rental properties maintenance, family and unfortunately medical issues.

Sadly about six weeks ago Mary was diagnosed with colon cancer and has been struggling since her chemo treatments began about six weeks ago.

Recently I emailed her regarding this date’s significance wondering if she might want to put together a blog posting so that her followers might wonder why she has been absent for so long.

She asked if I could come up with something positive which is pretty hard to do with so much bad news. Here’s a small indication for one her more recent emails to me…

Cancer is basically a master of my time. It demands three procedures for infusion,  Infusion on Monday, disconnect   port on Wednesday,  blood test for the next one on Friday. That is three trips to the hospital, then a week of supposed comfort. for me, has not been. I’ve had maybe one day of comfort out of five, as chemo, a poison, affects everyone differently. They’ve tweaked and dialed down the amount of chemo first by 10% then by 25%. I’m now somewhat stable for 4 weeks where tumors have shrunk by 1/3 and I do not have as much pain. I’ve lost 7 pounds during this time and can’t seem to gain any weight. Other patients I’ve spoken too have the same problem. The hope is that after the four weeks, they can tell how aggressive the cancer is and then attack again.  I think that is about all I can convey.

8/27/19…
Dying does make one a bit nostalgic. I’m really on thin ice. Chemo, chemo, chemo every two weeks. They are waning me that it may not be shrinking the tumors because they mutate. Then, the last chance I have is the inhibitor. She has been reluctant to use it.  I guess I’ll find out in about two months. I’ll have a scan. I’m trying this week to get my newspaper features down from up above so I can have them  printed into a book. I’ll hire it done.  And, I have a gal coming after you leave on Wednesday. She will turn my place into an AirBnb and manage it. And, I will ask her if she will finish my genealogy for me. She is good at that as well. Then I will write my obituary and say, hey, I’ll make it to 79, maybe even 80. That is a perfectly reasonable old age to live to especially since my life has been so great. More than I ever expected.

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS…

She is still with us. She’s a fighter and if anyone can beat this, she can! Despite the above messages, she remains upbeat most of the time.  All she can do is…just like the rest of us…is to…live her life One Day At A Time!

To end this message on a positive note, I thought I’d include some photos of her from happier times…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

And finally her 75th Birthday photo that I took for her…

I’m sure you will join me in wishing the very best of luck for her future well-being.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Southaven, Mississippi Day 3 (GA463)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’m scheduled to depart September 24th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted April 17, 2013…

The motorhome is now parked at VFW Post #10567 in Southaven, Mississippi. The location is about 1/4 mile south of the Tennessee Border and about 10 miles south of the City of Memphis. We will stay here while we explore the Memphis area for the next several days.

Yesterday was both hot and humid. About 85 degrees and 85% humidity. The Weather Wimp…as Mary calls me, says…Yuk!!!

I drove the Bronco the about seven miles to meet Mary at the Memphis Airport. She arrived at 6:00 PM. She was in a condition of which I have not seen her before. A few days ago she re-arranged her living room furniture and a couple of days later ended up with a very painful neck…and cannot lift anything…

She got a good night’s sleep and feels somewhat better this morning. As I write this, she thinks she will call an acupuncturist first thing this morning and try to get an appointment asap. One thing we have both noticed is that she tends to feel physically better on the road in the motorhome than at her home in California. Hopefully she will soon be up and jumping around again. 🙂

It was so hot in the motorhome when we returned that we sat outside enjoying a nice breeze and watched a hazy sunset…

In addition to hopefully get an acupuncture appointment, we need to get her unpacked and moved back in and probably do a little grocery shopping. Hopefully by tomorrow she’ll feel well enough to start doing a little sightseeing.

Enjoying a nice companionship is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!
