Lunch With A Friend In Anacortes, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Connor, Washington. I’ll depart here August 30th. I’ve been here a number of times in past years.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about a month.)

Today’s subject…

Yesterday I had lunch with a delightful friend. I met Beverly Malland a number of years ago and we have remained friends over the years and distance of my travels. She has lived in Anacortes, Washington for lots of years…

A CHANGE IN PLANS

DSC07684 (Copy)Spending time at Sonora Community Hospital happens more often it seems to me. I went for a mammogram, and to pick up my MRI results for the Spine Institute. While there, I zipped in to visit Paul Moeller. He is determined to get out of rehab, he misses his cat and figures he can be driven to his rehab appointments. I kind of chuckle at the old clunky phone in his room. It may  be easier to use than “smarter” phones.

DSC07678 (Copy)I zapped into the hospital cafeteria, one of the best places to have lunch in town. The food is that good. At one time only vegetarian dishes were served. The veggie meat balls and meat dishes were practically indistinguishable from the real thing. Now they serve both.

DSC07680 (Copy)Where else might you have music with your cafeteria lunch? June Wilson, a senior volunteer, enjoys playing the piano/organ for diners during lunch time several days a week.

DSC07681 (Copy)Volunteers find their niche in mysterious ways.

When I returned home, the Spine Institute canceled my appointment for today, and moved it forward to Feb. 17th. I get impatient and want things to be done and over. I won’t miss the long drive, 122 miles one way for me.

IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS

DSC07068 (Copy)I needed a sewing machine needle threader and stopped by Country Cloth in Angels Camp. Christmas kits for avid quilters are quick and easy. Ginger puts them together, her own ideas, and it makes for a quick satisfying project. But, not for me. I already have too many projects on hold. I enjoyed looking, even so.

DSC07070 (Copy)I liked this kit, too. Maybe in my old age. I keep saying that.

DSC07131 (Copy)I LOVE this. Three wise women would have asked for directions, arrived on time, helped deliver the baby, cleaned the stalls, made a casserole, brought practical gifts and then there would be PEACE ON EARTH. My daughter-in-law keeps this on her table during the season.

DSC07132 (Copy)Her tree is one she and Ken bought from a cut your own tree farm. It is beautiful. I’ve been locked out of my small storage building where I keep my Christmas, Halloween, Easter, decorating stuff. Yesterday, I removed the door. I have little mini plastic trees, but I haven’t gotten them up yet. I’m still doing cards. And, I practically faint at the price of Christmas trees these days. Memory can do a number on you.

DSC07240 (Copy)But, Christmastime is to fun to stay home. I met my friend Marilyn for lunch at Firewood. She came up from Discovery Bay and had a hankering for Fish Tacos. We met a fascinating woman RVer, 77 years old, who travels on her own or with friends, or grandchildren, all over the country on her own. Her name is Kathy Walsh and I got her phone number. Can’t wait to hear more tales of her travels. Anyway, I think Marilyn was a bit embarrassed because I wore this funky hat, and wanted my foot in the picture. I wore the hat because my hair was wet and it wouldn’t behave.  My foot? Just being silly. Marilyn is a great writer and has a published book, but she is not interested in writing another.

Make good the season. Its okay to be silly. Ciao, my friends.

Lunch With A Friend In Anacortes, Washington

The motorhome is parked the Thousand Trails RV Resort located in La Conner, Washington. I’ve been here several times in past years. My membership allows a maximum of a three-week stay, out for one-week and then you can return to the first park. My departure date is September 2nd.

I’m just hanging out taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

Mary’s personal to-do list plate, which can only be handled by herself, continues to over-flow. Recently we acknowledged that her meeting up with me in September, just is not going to happen.   😦

I’ll next likely see her when I arrive at her home in November. A friend recently expressed a concern about the status of our relationship. Not to worry…it continues to function per our original agreement when we met in October, 2008. That is…I remain on the road and she will join me when her other life allows. We talk every day on the phone…sometimes more than once. It’s just the way life is!

LUNCH WITH PAUL.

DSC05386 (Copy)

My long time friend, Paul Moeller, and I had lunch yesterday at a place we like in Murphys. He is soon headed for Thousand Oaks to be with his girl friend for twelve days,  and I’m just arriving home after two months. So, we seized the day and put aside my mail and his project of carpeting his deck and zapped to town.

DSC05385 (Copy)

Certainly, it is about sharing food, but more about sharing time. Being on the road has changed my lifestyle, so I always try to get together with old friends as much as I can when I’m home, even if it means dropping everything and obeying the rule, “people first”…

The world is a mess globally, but in your own small community you can find peace and sanity through family and friends.

My friend Jan came by and offered to teach me a rain dance, but I declined. Been there done that. I am thankful for the rain but I don’t like dancing in the mud.

Traveling can make you dizzy in a way. We drove from Hoh rain forest where the average rainfall is over 200 inches per year to California where we are in a deep drought. Earth, if we treat it right, is a grand place to live but carries death and destruction without intent, and surprises.  In Calama, a town in the Atacama Desert of Chile, records show, that it has never rained. Can you believe it?

Today, I will drive Jim to Palo Alto to have his pre-op exam on his eye, and a yearly check-up. Then back to Murphys. Much to do in the first week home.

LIFE HAS ITS LITTLE DRAMAS.

IMG_3278 (Copy)

An invitation for lunch from my friend, Paul was a pleasant two hours. We tried to solve all the problems of senior dating. It should be easy, but it isn’t. Men want women 20 years younger than themselves, its seems. He had one taker but after nine months of traveling back and forth to southern California, a trip to Germany and one to Hawaii,  they didn’t have enough in common to make it work.

IMG_3277 (Copy)

Lunch at Alchemy in Murphys, is to benefit from a wonderful chef. I ordered the white bean chicken stew with shaved lemon parmesan. Delish! Everything I’ve ever eaten there has been wonderful. Great soups and salads and wonderful entrees.

Paul had salmon and a salad with candied pecans and cranberries.

IMG_3279 (Copy)
They bring you corn bread, but, as you can see, it isn’t what you might expect.

DSC02483 (Copy)

In the afternoon, I got a call from a friend that a dog needed rescue from someone who was threatening to take it to the pound. The dog’s owner, my friend Anne, died and her caretaker decided she wouldn’t caretake the dog until the new owner could come from Oregon and get it. So, off I went and came home with this cute little part papillon. Animal Lovers is trying to find it a home.

DSC02497 (Copy)

I haven’t had a dog in about 8 years and it was fun to bond with a dog in need. But, my travel plans are soon. I expect little dogs are much easier to place then men in their 80’s.  Both are gems.
