Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort – Manteca, California – Day 2

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort along the San Joaquin River at Manteca, California. I expect to leave here later this morning.

Yesterday I drove to Bronco 40 miles in a heavy downpour to the VA Medical Center at Livermore. California. This rain was the first drenching rain this area has had in a long while. The purpose of my trip was a final eye exam and prescription reading glasses. I had cataract surgery on my right eye on October 9th and left eye on November 6th. I was told everything is in excellent condition and both eyes are now at 20/20. My new reading glasses will be mailed to me in about four weeks. In the meantime I get by with my Costco reading glasses.

Today I thought I’d share some information about this RV Resort. You can read about it by clicking this link… http://www.thousandtrails.com/california/turtle-beach-rv-resort/

Located at Manteca, California, it’s the closest park to Mary’s home which is 65 miles “up-the-hill” at 2,100 feet elevation. The elevation here is 38 feet. The park has only 72 campsites and is almost completely surrounded by the San Joaquin River as seen in the below Google Earth image…

Back in 2011 the river flooded the park to a depth of about four feet. The park was closed for almost a year while repairs were made. You can read about the flood by clicking this link… http://www.mantecabulletin.com/archives/22267/

Here are a few photos along the river… (I took these photos in April, 2014)

Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort – Manteca, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 65 miles from Murphys to Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort along the San Joaquin River at Manteca, California. Along the way I stopped for gas at Costco for $2.67.9 per gallon. Best gas price I’ve seen in a long while.

The cataract surgery of my right eye was conducted on October 9th and my left eye on November 6th. Both eyes are now at 20/20. The only remaining item left (other than eye drops until early December) is a visit to the optometrist to be fitted for reading glasses at the VA Hospital in Livermore, California. My appointment is at 11AM this morning.

Yesterday was a cloudy/sunny day at 65 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy with rain showers at 65 degrees.

Clarksburg, West Virginia

The motorhome is currently parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. My current departure date is scheduled for December 1st.

During this remaining time I’ll be attending to my cataract surgery, cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs to the motorhome and Bronco in addition to assisting Mary with her activities. None of these items are particularly exciting to write about…so…instead I’ll be showing Picasa Web Albums from our 682 day, 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States. It was Mary’s second circumnavigation and the sixth for myself.

Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily. So come back tomorrow.

The Alamo – San Antonio, Texas

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor has made the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

Last Monday we drove the Bronco 104 miles (one way) to the VA Medical Center at Livermore, California for my eye exam which confirmed my cataract in my right eye. I was told I’m a candidate for surgery. I now await a phone call to establish an appointment for a consultation with an eye surgeon.

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

LIVERMORE VETERANS FACILITY

DSC04010 (Copy)

Driving through Livermore yesterday, down First St., I spotted what I thought was an evergreen in bloom. It took a second to realize this evergreen is festooned with yellow ribbons. The significance, I’m guessing, is a welcoming home of returning veterans. Amazing, isn’t it?  That a simple song about welcoming home a wayward lover has spread across America and brings a warm, fuzzy feeling every time you see this in communities all over the U.S.- to know that someone is welcoming someone home.

DSC04016 (Copy)

A huge veterans medical facility is located on Arroyo Rd. A beautiful drive past Concannon, Wente and other vineyards.  This lovely old Mission Adobe style building serves a lot of people. It was a hospital at one time, but now nothing but minor emergency surgeries are done here.

DSC04015 (Copy)

The facade tells me the building was built in 1947. It is still in great shape unlike our abandoned mental facilities that were closed during Reagan’s presidency in the belief that drugs would control mental problems. It hurts to see crumbling old buildings serve no purpose, so this one was a joyful chorus.

DSC04013 (Copy)

Jim was given a very comprehensive eye examination by Doctor Pineda.

DSC04014 (Copy)

She checked and measured and photographed, then rechecked every aspect of his eye health. Pressure in his eye is caused by a cataract and not from glaucoma.  A second cataract is building on his left eye. He will need surgery.

DSC04011 (Copy)

Conclusive evidence by a very competent and efficient doctor who will now pass that information along to a surgeon who works out of their Palo Alto facility.  We now know it will take about 6 months before they can fit him in the schedule at Palo Alto. We expect his surgery will be done sometime in October.

We ate East Indian food at the Clay Pot on First St. in Livermore.  It has been so many years since I’ve driven through town I barely recognized the place for the beautiful upgrades, nice restaurants and upscale small businesses.

I wanted to show Jim the oldest light bulb in the United States, perhaps the world, but I could no longer spot where the old City Hall was? I saw it when I was 17 years old, and I know the light bulb was still burning after 100 years and I wondered if it was still so? I went on-line, and found the whole story.  Check it out:
