The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart here May 9th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted September 17, 2013…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 89 miles from Kalispell to Libby, Montana.

Yesterday was the first decent weather day I’ve experienced in a long time. Even though the temperature got to 81…the humidity was only 40%. Combined with a sunny/cloudy day and a pleasant all-day breeze, it was most enjoyable. During my yesterday’s morning walk is was 68 degrees…today 20 degrees cooler at 48.

Forecast high temperature for today is 69 degrees. Yes! Mucho Bettero!

We’ll continue our westward travel later this morning.

Libby, Montana

The motorhome is now parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort along the bank of the Skykomish River in Monroe, Washington. I’ve been here a number of times over the past years and always enjoy it here. My scheduled departure date is September 23rd.

I’m just hanging out taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

Mary’s personal to-do list plate, which can only be handled by herself, continues to over-flow. I’ll next likely see her when I arrive at her home in mid-October. A friend recently expressed a concern about the status of our relationship. Not to worry…it continues to function per our original agreement when we met in October, 2008. That is…I remain on the road and she will join me when her other life allows. We talk every day on the phone…sometimes more than once. It’s just the way life is!

A more relaxed mode…After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, I have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months I will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless I do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Sandpoint, Idaho

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 84 miles from Libby, Montana to Sandpoint, Idaho,

We continued traveling along U.S.Highway 2 West.

About nine miles north of Libby, we stopped to see the Kootenai (KOOT-nee) Swinging Bridge and Falls. The 1994 move, The River Wild starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon was filmed here. As we started down the trail, we got this peek-a-boo view of the falls…

DSC06647

A little further on we crossed this walkway built by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad…

DSC06648

So that folks wouldn’t get run over by this train…

DSC06651

Then down 64 steps to continue on the trail…

DSC06690

Until we came to this fork in the trail. We decided to take the longer path to the left to the swinging bridge first…

DSC06676

A few minutes later we got our first glimpse of the swinging bridge…

DSC06653

We got there a few minutes later…

DSC06659

The bridge was built by the U.S. Forest Service to give them access to forest fires on the other side of the river…

It really does swing when walked upon…

Continuing on, the traffic remained light as we entered Idaho and the Pacific Time Zone…

LIBBY, MONTANA

DSC00780 (Copy)

Driving from Kelispell to Libby yesterday morning  brought us through 9 miles of road work much of it really, bumpy gravel.

DSC00777 (Copy)

Elevation rises, more trees and stump farms with scraggly second or third growth. One plot had about 3 scraggly trees and nothing but stumps. This is lumber country obviously and the twigs we see everywhere that pass for trees is disheartening even if it is private land.

DSC00815 (Copy)

Libby is called the City of Eagles. We didn’t see any flying around or nesting spots along the roadway, but there were plenty of them around town.

We had expected to see the Museum and Nordic Heritage Center, but it was closed.

DSC00810 (Copy)

We missed by one day the Nordic Heritage Days annual celebration. This sign was left on the street. We pulled in to stay at the VFW in town and just walked the downtown area and took pictures.

DSC00792 (Copy)

I  judge the health of a small town by its art or lack of it, good beer, buildings that are well cared for and if you see a nice child care center, a drug treatment center, senior center, plenty of doctors offices, a hospital and good looking schools you know you are in a progressive community. Libby qualifies. The main street was only about four blocks long and two blocks deep, but it was full of murals and they are expensive. DSC00811 (Copy)

Even their garbage cans were painted. This one mentions their Annual River Front Blues Festival. DSC00807 (Copy)

They still have a working theater in town. Nice.

The Libby Cafe claims to have the best huckleberry flapjacks in Montana.  I liked their sign.

DSC00790 (Copy)

This one too.

Libby has an Amtrak Station so you can get where you want to go. Country living, small town, pretty nice place to live.
