Wimer, Oregon To Anderson, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 188 miles from Wimer, Oregon to Anderson California.

I’m expecting to arrive at Mary’s home in central California, tomorrow and depart November 30th. While there, I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and major cleaning of the Bronco and motorhome.

Today’s Subject…Anderson, California…

Along the way yesterday, I stopped at Medford, Oregon. About two weeks ago, my power step stopped working. Yeah, I was already planning to get a new step mat. For the time being, I was able to push/pull it by hand…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

I got on the phone to Fleetwood (motorhome manufacturer) and ordered the new step from them. I had it delivered to Mike’s RV Service in Medford as I knew I would be passing through there on my way to Mary’s place. I arrived at 8 AM yesterday morning and they were ready for the install…

This is what the underside of the step looks like in case you were wondering. After 10 years, the gearbox gave up…

After one hour, the new step and mat had been installed and I was on the road again…

Along the way I passed Lake Shasta. According to a local the newspaper is saying it’s down 135 feet due to the drought…

Arriving at Anderson, I parked in the back of VFW Post #9650 where they have a 30 amp electrical outlet so I could run my air-conditioning…

Yesterday was 97 degrees! YUK! Normally I would not be this far south, this early in the fall season. On October 4th, Mary turned 75 years old and her family is having a 75th birthday party for her this Saturday…and I told her I would be there. So, here I am in this horrible heat which is supposed to break in the next couple of days. I’ll spend tonight at Nicolaus, California and arrive at Mary’s home on Thursday.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny and 97 degrees. Forecast for destination today is sunny and 92 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Moose Club #1006 – Redding, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 168 miles from Rogue River, Oregon  over the Siskiyou Mountains to Redding, California. The entire drive was on Interstate Highway 5 which meant lots of 18 wheelers.

Because of an early winter-type storm in the area, we saw lots of unusual and pretty cloud formations along the way…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC03655

Mount Shasta was more cloud-covered than Mary or myself had ever seen it in the many times we have driven by…

DSC03656

Lake Shasta remains really low in comparison to past years…

DSC03662

We parked behind what WAS Moose Lodge 1006…

DSC03671

And the usual dinette window photo…

DSC03667

I say WAS…because they are closed. I found several volunteer members cleaning out the building which was recently sold to avoid bankruptcy. It’s a situation we see all to frequently as we travel these United States. Many fraternal organizations (American Legion, Eagles, Elks, Moose and VFW) seem to be fighting the same battle…insufficient membership activity to meet the financial obligations to run the club. This club told us they will be downsizing to a smaller building rather than closing their doors like many others have been forced to do. This club has been in existence 102 years and in this building since the early 1950’s. They also told us their new site will have RV parking.

It’s truly a sad statement about today’s United States involvement in organizations that do so much good for so many people.

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

With regards to my upcoming cataract surgery..my pre-op exam and consultation is set for September 29 at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California…surgery is scheduled for October 9th.

Yesterday was a cloudy/sunny day with rain at night and 74 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy/sunny and 74 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

IT HASTA BE SHASTA

Its so brilliantly white, just popping up in front of you from the surrounding green, its hard to believe its real. Even through the bug spattered windshield, Mt. Shasta is an imposing sight. We moved from Redding to Rogue River, Oregon. Driving over the Siskiyous is always a beautiful, scenic trip at this time of year. But, Shasta…is Shasta. The most snow I’ve ever seen on her slopes at this time of year.

Lake Shasta, usually has a red soil  line beneath the trees from its all time high level. This is the first time I’ve seen it with the water sloshing up to tree level.

As we got closer, I couldn’t resist shot after shot of this gorgeous mountain.

And the startling Black Butte was equally beautiful, with more greenery than I can remember, and with a slash of snow in a crevice as well.

The State of Jefferson has a bigger sign, freshly painted, most likely reflecting new activity from the proposed new leadership such as Mark Smith who has gone to Washington D.C. three times as a delegate to push their cause.

On my own property in Rogue River, the river was deep and wide with only a small section of white water and one downed tree with a root ball sticking up in the air.

I got my fire suppression arranged so I can sign off when the work is done. Oregon wants a personal certification from the land owner that you’ve complied with the removal of any endangering vegetative fuels. There is plenty of that this year. All is well. I love this place on the river, despite the fact that about half of my   seven acres floods every now and then  according to the neighbors. The mobile and well house have never been under water, though as far back as anyone can remember.
