Anderson To Nicolaus, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 123 miles from Anderson to Nicolaus, California.

I’m expecting to arrive at Mary’s home in Murphys, California, later today and depart November 30th. While there, I’ll do routine maintenance, minor repairs and major cleaning of the Bronco and motorhome.

Today’s Subject…Anderson to Nicolaus, California…

I started the day driving south on Interstate Highway 5…

After about 20 miles I reached Red Bluff on got on California Highway 99 South. With slower speed limits and a lot less of 18 wheelers, it’s a lot less stressful and more pleasant drive through miles of fruit orchards. It goes through a number of small towns with an occasional traffic light…

On the two-lane portions, speed limits are typically 55 miles per hour…

On the four-lane portions, speed limits are typically 65 miles per hour. California State Law has a maximum of 55 miles per hour for all towing vehicles. Since I’m towing the Bronco, that means me…

There are no pull-thru sites, so I backed the Bronco in first and hitched back up to the motorhome so I’m ready to roll this morning…

Lake Minden is a convenient place to spend the night when approaching Mary’s home from the north. I’ll continue my southerly journey later this morning. Google Earth is telling me I’ve got 113 miles to go until I arrive at Mary’s home at Murphys, California.

Yesterday was 92 degrees! YUK! Normally I would not be this far south, this early in the fall season. On October 4th, Mary turned 75 years old and her family is having a 75th birthday party for her this Saturday…and I told her I would be there. So, here I am in this horrible heat which is supposed to break in the next couple of days. I’ll spend tonight at Nicolaus, California and arrive at Mary’s home later today.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was a sunny and 92 degrees. Forecast for destination today is sunny and 86 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort – Nicolaus, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 113 miles from Murphys to Nlicolaus, California.

Change of plans…

2015 is proving to be an overwhelming year for Mary. Her to-do plate is overflowing. Among the many things requiring her time is the completion of construction of a rental property in Rogue River, Oregon. Mary will be driving there on Saturday, May 9 for a few days of hands-on involvement, then return home to continue dealing with her over-flowing plate.

Mary’s stuff can only be attended to by herself…she’s always telling me she can not get anything done when I’m around. 🙂

So, I’ll depart from here with the motorhome and Bronco today and arrive at Rogue River tomorrow for a four-day stay after which I’ll head for the Oregon Pacific Coast for about a six-week visit and then into the State of Washington for the summer. My primary goals are to stay in 65-75 degree weather and take maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership.

We are now hoping for Mary to rejoin me sometime after July 4th. Our planned trip to Yellowstone National Park and Wyoming will hopefully now occur after the Labor Day holiday.

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Since I’m only over-nighting and did not want to go through the effort of disconnecting the Bronco, I elected to dry-camp away from everyone else. It’s nice and quiet here and it allows me to give the generator an over-due workout…

ARRIVED HOME SAFELY.

DSC05364 (Copy)

We left Lake Minden north of Sacramento yesterday and arrived in Murphys at about 1:30. I walked the lake the night before without my camera and missed some great shots of two big catfish surfacing, mouths open, holding above water long enough for a photo. Dang. I should always carry my camera, I know that. So, I told Jim, we had to walk the lake again before we left in the early morning-with camera. Reflections on a “glass” surface.

DSC05365 (Copy)

Clear and beautiful.

DSC05380 (Copy)

The fish were feeding, and jumping and biting, but just try to get a photo.

DSC05376 (Copy)

A fish would surface, grab an insect and be under before you could snap the photo. I have multiple pictures of gray shadows in the water.

DSC05371 (Copy)

It is a pretty place, and peaceful here. Jim gets exhausted driving with one eye impaired. He has to concentrate so hard that we move very slowly. So, it was a lovely last night on the road.

DSC05381 (Copy)

I got home to my usual pounds of mail and then made the mistake of looking at the news.  What mediocrity we call news. Everyone is incriminating Obama because he saluted the flag with a cup of coffee in his hand. There are life and death issues to deal with and the news focuses on a cup of coffee?

10649873_10152395951021167_3421925196405342285_n (Copy)

Did the “newspapers” ever make a fuss about Bush saluting with his dog?  What crap passes for news. I used to give Jim a bad time about getting rid of his news feeds. I don’t any more. It is mostly garbage and good luck trying to tell the truth from the lies. Lies have become standard and accepted. Money to both parties is like a river, while very little work gets done by the people we elect TO SERVE US. What shame that we have entrusted our fate to legislators that  govern from where their largest donations come from. Corporate interests.

Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort – Nicolaus, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 135 miles from Redding to Nicolaus, California. We are parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. We will depart later this morning.

The below Google Earth image shows the area. Since we spent only one night, we decided to boondock (no utilities) rather than park in a regular site where I would have been required to un-hitch the Bronco then re-hitch it this morning. The arrow shows our boondocking location away from all the other campers where we enjoyed a pleasant quiet night’s rest…

With regards to my upcoming cataract surgery..my pre-op exam and consultation is set for September 29 at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California…surgery is scheduled for October 9th.

Yesterday was a cloudy/sunny day and 78 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy/sunny and 67 degrees.

Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort – Nicolaus, California

Mary is traveling with her 14-year-old grandson on a trip to Turkey. I expect her to catch up with me sometime in mid-May somewhere in Oregon.

Yesterday I drove the 97 miles from Manteca to Nicolaus, California. Most of the trip was on Interstate Highway 5. I have not driven this stretch of I-5 in many years as I normally drive California Highway 99 through this area of California. Yesterday however, I-5 was more convenient. The reason I prefer 99 over I-5 is that it has lesser, slower moving traffic with fewer 18-wheelers.

This first photo below illustrates this. Here you get a unique driver view. The roadway ahead, my rear-view camera monitor and by looking in the rear view mirror you can see some of the traffic volume…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Along the way I stopped at the Sacramento 49er Truck/RV Wash. I like to give the vehicles a twice-a-year thorough wash and this is a convenient location at a fair price. The washers are all Mexican who are hard workers and do a very good job. The whole process takes only about 20 minutes and I get the motorhome, including the roof, and Bronco really clean for only $47…

In this first photo you can see an 18-wheelers in the bath process…
