Kitt Peak Observatory – Arizona

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. My departure date to head South is now set for December 2nd. About one month later Mary will fly to meet me in Yuma, Arizona.

The cleaning  and minor work on the Bronco is now completed. After our 682 day journey, they were both ready for some attention. Both are now in near-showroom condition.

Yesterday was a mostly cloudy day at 58 degrees and some showers last night. Today is forecast mostly cloudy with some rain and 57 degrees.

A CHANGE…

I’ve decided that my current daily activity (preparing the motorhome for my December 2nd departure) is not really all that exciting to read or see. I’ve further decided to share with you some of the photos from our recent 682 days of circumnavigating the United States.

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS. UNLESS I DID SOMETHING UNIQUE OR UNUSUAL YESTERDAY, THE PHOTO ALBUM WILL CHANGE DAILY.

My miscellaneous chores list is now complete. The only thing awaiting my attention is re-stocking the motothome and assisting Mary with some of her house chores.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Kitt Peak Observatory, Arizona

Yesterday Mary and I took the Bronco 55 miles west of Tucson, Arizona to the Kitt Peak Observatory. We climbed a 12 mile 8% grade road to get to the top at 6,800 feet. The site is set on 200 acres atop the mountain and has 25 telescopes, most of which are run by numerous universities from across the United States. We lucked out and caught a beautiful sunny and warm day despite the elevation.

Here’s The official museum website link…

Here are a couple of Google Earth images. First a general site view…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

And then a closer view…

Under terrible photography conditions…harsh sunlight on a bright white light-colored structures and dimly lit interiors…we nonetheless ventured forth. Here are some of the photos that I took…

During our six-hour visit we took two different guided tours. The first was a 1.5 hour tour of a solar telescope that studies only the sun. The second was a 1.5 hour tour of the 4 meter telescope…the largest telescope on the site. On both tours we had the same docent. Jerry, a retired electrical engineer, was both very knowledgeable and very humorous. He kept us laughing while describing these very complex technologies. Another enjoyable day of full-time RVing.
