The POW/MIA Flag…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have almost 4,000 postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’m scheduled to depart here December 23rd.

In the day before yesterday’s blog posting about the veterans Christmas party in Indio, California…I posted the below photo. Commander Mike of the local VFW Post #3669 read to us the meaning of the items on the table which can be found in every VFW and American Legion Post across the nation.

Always present at the table is the POW/MIA Flag. Every American citizen should understand the significance of the flag and the freedom they enjoy.

On August 10, 1990, the 101st Congress passed U.S. Public Law 101-355, recognizing the National League of Families POW/MIA Flag and designating it “as a symbol of our Nation’s concern and commitment to resolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia. Thus ending the uncertainty for their families and the Nation.” Beyond Southeast Asia, it has been a symbol for POW/MIAs from all American Wars.

I ask you to remember…

There are 1,741 American personnel listed by the Defense Department’s POW/MIA Office as missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, as of April 2009.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you. 1. Jesus Christ 2. The American G.I. “One died for your soul, the other for your freedom!”

I’m proud to be a life-member of VFW Post #4224 from Baker, Louisiana!

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was mostly sunny and 64 degrees. Forecast for today is sunny and 58 degrees.

Remember…

The tables small, symbolizing the frailty of the prisoners, who are alone, against their captors.

Remember…

The tablecloth is white, symbolizing the purity of their intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms.

Remember…

The single red rose displayed in the vase symbolizes the families and loved ones who keep the faith, awaiting their return.

Remember…

The red, white, and blue ribbon tied around the vase is of the same that is displayed on the lapel, and breast of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determinations to demand a prepare account of our missing.

Remember…

A slice of lemon is on the bread plate to remind us of their bitter fate.

Remember…

There is salt upon the bread plate symbolic of the families’ tears, as they wait word of their missing.

Remember…

The glass is inverted because the missing cannot toast with us.

Remember…

The chairs you see are empty because the missing cannot be with us.

Remember…

Remember, all of you that served with them and called them comrades, who depended upon their might and aid and relied upon them, for surely they have not forgotten you.

Remember…

Yesterday I spent an enjoyable 3.5 hours at the National Guard Armory in Indio, California. It was the site of the 10th annual free veterans Christmas party…

I enjoyed sitting across the table from active duty Marine, Lance Corporal Kyle Angove from Panama City Florida. A bright and intelligent young man…

I also sat next to these members of the California Cadet Corp. They are local high school students being introduced to the military lifestyle. Later they will choose their branch of service. I especially enjoyed talking with these young people who have a sense of country service and patriotism. If I were in charge of the world, I would make the following changes…

  • I would re-institute the draft and require a minimum of three-year service to our country. Just because we were born in this great country does not mean anyone should get a free ride. I view it as an insult to the millions who have died for our country…
  • No one can be President and hence Commander-in-chief of our armed forces unless they have worn, regardless of rank, the uniform of our country. For the same reason as above…

Here’s Hoping…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort in Palm Desert, California. I’m scheduled to depart here December 23rd.

About three weeks back I posted a blog entry about having a new fuel pump installed in the gas tank of my motorhome. During the installation, the mechanic noticed my left rear shock was leaking and the my rear brake pads were getting low and needing replacement. I like using factory original parts, although expensive. They were a little difficult to identify part numbers and find a vendor. I finally accomplished that and the new shocks and brake pads finally arrived three days ago.

While awaiting the parts I began scoping out local garages to install the parts. When in this part of the world I always try to find small-shop, local Mexican mechanics. Over the years I have found them great mechanics, hard-working and honest.

I finally found a two Mexican-man shop, Cesar’s Auto Repair in nearby Indio, California….

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Located in a small strip-mall type building is a little usual for a garage…

DSC08186

The one-bay shop is entered at the back of the building. I backed about 3/4’s of the motorhome into the work area…

DSC08184

Looking behind the motorhome, the rest of the work area…

DSC08185

First task was to replace the shocks…not an easy job…

DSC08188

Here are the old shocks. The top one is the leaker…

DSC08190

Next came replacing the brake pads…

DSC08191

Occasionally requiring both men…

DSC08193

Here are the old brake pads. They were ready to be changed after 58,000 miles…

DSC08196

In recent blog entries, I’ve also identified an intermittent cold-start, lower-power for a few minutes problem. Replacing the fuel pump and filter did not remedy the problem. The next suspected cause was the electrical connector for the Mass Air Flow Sensor. The sensor is located in the housing directly behind the engine air filter. In addition to cleaning the electrical connector…I also elected to clean the sensor as well. Here the air filter cover with the sensor sits on the pavement drying after cleaning…

DSC08198

The thin wires in the Mass Air Flow sensor monitors incoming air to the engine and the engine computer directs fuel flow to the engine. I’m HOPING the cleaning of the Mass Air Flow Sensor and its connector will rectify my intermittent cold-start, low-power problem. Only time will tell whether it has cured the problem. If not, on to the next suspected probable cause…

DSC08202

As long as we were right there I had the mechanic cleaner my life-time K&N Air Filter…

DSC08194

It’s air-dryed before re-installation…

DSC08203

HERE’S HOPING…my low-power start problem is gone!

If you are in the area and need a good mechanic, I highly recommend them to you…
