The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Turtle Beach RV Resort in Manteca, California. I’m scheduled to depart here April 17th.

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 35 miles from Cut Bank to Browning, Montana.

 

We continued traveling along U.S.Highway 2 West.

 

Along the way we saw our first glimpse of the Rocky Mountains about 50 miles distant. Look closely at the far horizon…

Browning holds a very interesting record… From January 23, 1916 to January 24, 1916, the temperature fell 100°F (56°C) from 44°F (7°C) to -56°F (-49°C). This is the United States and also the world record for the greatest temperature change in 24 hours.

On duty in the gift shop was another artist happy to show me his work. John Isaiah Pepion has a website at http://pepionledgerart.com/

He does ink and oil-based colored pencil drawings on old ledger paper as a background…

We parked overnight in the lot behind the museum. This photo will also serve as a quasi for my usual dinette window photo as the view would be the same more or less…

Yesterday was a decent day. 79 degrees…humidity still far to high. Today’s forecast 87 degrees. YUCKITTY!

We’ll continue our westward travel later this morning.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 47 miles from Indian River to St. Ignace, Michigan.

 

 

When we arrived yesterday, I had driven the motorhome 1,070 miles in the last six days. About 1,000 mile of that was on the Interstate Highway system, which I hate to do. It’s very stressful and dangerous. But we needed to get away from the heat and humidity on the east coast and get staged for the next portion of our journey…to arrive in Monroe, Washington on September 24th. In addition to my annual physical on September 26th at the VA Hospital  in Seattle (which I missed last year), I have an eye exam scheduled, I need to renew my driver’s license and have my mechanic Mike do some mechanical work for me. We want to be heading south for Mary’s home in California before the rainy season begins in Washington around October 1st.

 

 

We are now on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan…where the locals are called Youpers. Mary told me folks from lower Michigan are called udders or trolls by the Youpers.

 

 

As we started yesterday’s travels…it was time to clear the windshield after six days of hard-driving…

Instead of taking Interstate Highway 75 to the Mackinac Bridge, we opted for Michigan Route 27 which went through Cheboygen…a real pretty town…

 

 

The Mackinac Bridge is the third longest suspension bridge between anchorages in the world and the longest in the western hemisphere and was completed in 1957. You can read all about this bridge by clicking the official website link… http://www.mackinacbridge.org/

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues.

 

 

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 75 miles from Sumner Lake State Park, southeast to Clovis, New Mexico. I’m parked at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee #3245. I expect to be here 2-3 days.

Yesterday was our second full day of exploration in this huge national park. We drove our Ford Bronco II the about 50 miles round-trip and explored the eastern-most of the two “legs” into the park…Chapin Mesa. First stop was at the museum and then to Cliff Palace…at 150 rooms…the largest cliff dwelling in the park.

During our outing yesterday, I started feeling a little weary. I believe it was from over-doing things the day before. It’s hard for me to remember the terrible accident occurred just 15 days ago and that it will take a little while yet before I’m completely healed. Pains in my chest and a shortness of breath (accident related) limited our outing yesterday. I really should not be out climbing up and down mountainsides,,,especially at 7,000+ feet elevation…quite yet.

 

 

It’s  been 15 days since the accident during which I took a severe hit to my right rib cage. The rib cage is still quite swollen, tender and sore. With absolutely no warning I’m still subject to a stabbing-like pain. Not as bad as the first few days which felt like a sharp knife. Now it feels like a dull knife! Any burp, sneeze, cough, turning or bending over motion can bring it on. I’m still wrapping my chest daily with the elastic bandage which I remove 2-3 times a day to ice the swollen area for 20 minutes. I remove the elastic bandage for sleeping. Still taking my pain medication, but at a reduced dosage. I’m trying to stretch out my dwindling supply hoping not to run out of medication before I run out of pain.  Moving slowly seems to be the best way to minimize the pain attacks.

 

 

Today we’ll move on to Durango, Colorado.

Yesterday was our first full day of exploration in this huge national park. We drove our Ford Bronco II the 50 miles round-trip and explored the western-most of the two “legs” into the park…Wetherill Mesa. The roads were so steep and winding, I drove the entire trip in second gear.

I’m happy to report that despite the somewhat strenuous activities of the day, I made it through without any major pain attacks. Today is 14 days since the terrible accident. I remain still wrapping my chest with the elastic bandage and still taking my pain medications. Today we expect to have a day similar to yesterday.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Mount Vernon RV Resort at Bow, Washington. I’ll depart here later this morning..

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

 

 

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

 

 

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday we drove the motorhome the about 20 miles from Cortez, Colorado to Mesa Verde National Park. In the process we gained 1,300 feet and are now camped at 7,500 feet elevation. The afternoon temperature yesterday was 79 degrees…much better that the previous afternoon’s temperature of 89 degrees.

Shortly after our arrival here yesterday at about 1:30 PM, we had a visitor…

 

 

This park is so huge we decided not to start our sightseeing until today. It’s a 15 mile drive just to get to the visitors center and the cliff dwellings another 7 miles beyond that. We expect to spend two days exploring the park and depart here on Monday.
