Highway 1 – Mississippi

The motorhome is currently parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. My current departure date is scheduled for December 1st.

During this time I’ll be attending to my cataract surgery, cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs to the motorhome and Bronco in addition to assisting Mary with her activities. None of these items are particularly exciting to write about…so…instead I’ll be showing Picasa Web Albums from our 682 day, 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States. It was Mary’s second circumnavigation and the sixth for myself.

Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily. So come back tomorrow.

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

My cataract surgery is scheduled for October 9th at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California.

Yesterday was a sunny day and 88 degrees. Forecast for today is sunny and 92 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Lula, Mississippi

Note: I’m now expecting to arrive in Memphis today.  Mary has made her flight reservations. She’ll meet me on Tuesday.

————————————————————————————————————–

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 100 miles from Greenville to Lula, Mississippi.

With the exception of the last five miles all of the travel was on Mississippi Highway 1…also called the Great River Road…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

About six miles north of Greenville I stopped at the Winterville Mounds Park and Museum…

005

Winterville is one of the largest Native American mound sites in the United States. The people who built these massive earthworks were part of the Mississippi culture that flourished nearly one thousand years ago. Important structures such as temples and the homes of the highest-ranking members of society were built atop the mounds. Known as Mound A, the tallest mound in this park, at 55 feet is roughly the same height as a five-story building.

You can read about this park at their official website…

Here are some of the photos that I took…

As you can see in the above photos, there is no shoulder along the road. I missed probably about a dozen old building photos like this one because there was no safe place to stop…

I’m in the heart of the Mississippi Blues Music Country which I will openly admit I am not a fan and consequently know nothing about. I saw a number of buildings similar the Last Call Bar and Grill…

As I passed through the little hamlet of Rosedale, I looked for the marker, but could not find it. According to local legend, a young musician by the name of Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil at the crossroads of Mississippi Highways 1 and 8 to achieve success. He died at age 27…hmmm. I’ll depart for Memphis, Tennessee later this morning.

Greenville, Mississippi

Note: I’m now expecting to arrive in Memphis tomorrow.  Mary has made her flight reservations. She’ll meet me in Memphis on April 16th.

————————————————————————————————————–

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 100 miles from Vicksburg to Greenville, Mississippi.

Most of the travel was on Mississippi Highway 1…also called the Great River Road…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

The scenery (or lack thereof) was disappointing with little other than sameness. Little caught my attention to photograph along the way…

After grocery shopping I pulled into the parking lot of VFW Post #4438 and waited for someone to arrive…

It’s now Saturday morning and I’m still waiting. I’ll depart later this morning.

Enjoying sameness is not another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!
