Dillsburg, Pennsylvania (GA500)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Lake Minden RV Resort in Nicolaus, California. I’m scheduled to depart here November 7th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted May 24, 2013…

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the about 125 miles from Winchester, Virginia to Dillsburg, Pennsylvania where we spent the night at American Legion Post #26…

Because of the unusual state boundary configurations in this area…we started our drive in Virginia, then into West Virginia…back into Virginia, then into Maryland and then into Pennsylvania.

The roads were smooth and traffic was relatively light although most of the drive was in a light rain. We will move along later this morning.

Dillsburg is a rather unusual name for a town so I looked it up and here’s what I found…The town is named for Matthew Dill, an immigrant from County Monaghan, Ireland, who settled the town in 1740. The village became a center for local agriculture. And now you know as well.  🙂

Along the way yesterday, we passed through Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where we stopped to do some grocery shopping. We’ve both explored Gettysburg battlefield and museum in the past…

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

The motorhome is parked the Thousand Trails RV Resort located La Conner, Washington. I’ve been here several times in past years. I’ll depart here September 2nd.

I’m just hanging out taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

Mary’s personal to-do list plate, which can only be handled by herself, continues to over-flow. Recently we acknowledged that her meeting up with me in September, just is not going to happen.   😦

I’ll next likely see her when I arrive at her home in November. A friend recently expressed a concern about the status of our relationship. Not to worry…it continues to function per our original agreement when we met in October, 2008. That is…I remain on the road and she will join me when her other life allows. We talk every day on the phone…sometimes more than once. It’s just the way life is!

On July 12th, I blogged about the great Civil War photo book I found in a Goodwill store. If you missed that posting, here’s the link…http://wp.me/pDCku-ckv

I’ve really enjoyed reading this book reminding me of the many places I’ve been that played an important role in the Civil War. I’ve decided it would be a great time to re-visit some of the places and share them with you. If I’m writing a blog entry about a place, means I read about it in this great Civil War photo book with nearly 4,000 photographs and I have been there! I’ll continue these Blog postings until I’ve until I do them all in my collection.

RV Trip Favorite Photos #139-144

Jim says:

While Mary and I are taking care of business here at her home…there is little “new stuff” to Blog about daily. So I’ve decided to share with you some of my favorite photos from our recent 298 day, 16,000+ mile RV trip around the United States.

Since scenery and people snapshot-type photos require little special photography skills…and being limited by the abilities of my digital camera…I none the less took some photos that I really liked. They are presented in no special order of favoritism.

Today’s photos were taken at Gettysburg National Military Park on May 17, 2010……

Harpers Ferry National Park

Jim says:

Yesterday Mary and I drove about 100 miles through four different states of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Along the way we spent a nice three hours roaming around Harpers Ferry (West Virginia) National Park. Harpers Ferry was a critical crossroads during the Civil War and changed hands eight times during those times. There’s a lot of history here.

I started taking photographs in 1974. I went back through my old photos and cannot find any of Harpers ferry which means I was last here in pre-1974. Also, I remembered the streets in Harpers Ferry to be steep and narrow. So we left the motorhome in Charles Town, West Virginia and drove the six miles in the Bronco to Harpers Ferry. Good thing as there was absolutely no place in Harpers Ferry where I could have parked the motorhome.

This kiosk sign describes the park.
