Saulsbury, Tennessee Day 5 (GA475)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Seaside, Oregon. I’m scheduled to depart October 17th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted April 29, 2013…

Oregon City, Oregon To Chehalis, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click
Here

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 100 miles from Oregon City, Oregon to Chehalis, Washington.

Prior to my departure I went out for my daily brisk mile walk and there was a Canadian Geese convention going on. During my walk I saw at least another 100 of them. They sure like this place…

The little ones sure are cute…

99% of the trip was on Interstate Highways 205 and 5. The traffic on 205 going around Portland, Oregon is usually quite heavy…

Upon arrival in Chehalis, I checked in to Thousand Trails RV Resort. I’ve stayed here a number of times over the years…

THE JEWEL OF BLAINE COUNTY AT CHINOOK

DSC00181 (Copy)

Wax museums and stuffed animal museums are something I dislike, but Jude Shepherd from the Blaine County Museum said, “What about three buffalo tumbling over a cliff, stampeded by Indians?” She had me hooked.  Look at these little birds above. Could you tell they are stuffed?

I was stunned at the realism of this diorama. The camera doesn’t do it justice.

DSC00182 (Copy)

The  Wild Life Museum is nothing short of amazing for its collection of large animals, the life-like poses, realistic artwork backgrounds and sheer numbers of beautiful, large animals.

One giant diorama holds a pond with a beaver dam. Ducks swim on the surface and fish swim below the water line. Inside of the dam, you mama beaver with her kits.

Baby coyotes playing and nipping each other in such a natural manner, I couldn’t resist posting them in spite of the glare.

You feel as though you’ve just come upon this little fawn as you walk in the woods. The trees,by the way, real. The talented setting worker chooses trees and bushes in the wild.  She removes the branches and copies them with foliage and replaces them to look exactly like the original. Another talented artist paints and blends in the back ground.

DSC00224 (Copy)

Some trees need artificial bark. Jude showed me a piece.  Its made of rubber.

A little elk calf.

DSC00223 (Copy)

And this endearing little calf scratching his ear.

And the birds, too, are plentiful and are naturally mixed with the large animal scenes.

A night scene of a porcupine in the moonlight.

DSC00186 (Copy)

I didn’t count nor ask how many, but there is easily over 100 animals in this exhibit. Just a few doors down from the Blaine County Museum. Make it a point to find this marvelous jewel. Pictures only tell half the tale.

If you need another reason to stop off in Chinook, here is Kim, from the Eagles, handing me my first decent beer since I got on the road this trip, Pig Ass Porter. Yum. Jim always orders my beer by asking first for the darkest beer ya got,  like 30 weight motor oil. Now that is worth swirling your tongue around.

Oakland, New Jersey – Day 4

We are still parked in a beautiful park-like setting at Elks Club #2167.

Mary flies out of Newark Airport tomorrow to return home to California for about a six-week stay and I’ll depart Thursday morning heading for my son’s home in Connecticut. Mary has a tentative return-to-me date of July 16th.

In today’s other photos…I would like you to enjoy them. However…study them for a moment and enjoy the COLORS, FORMS, SHAPES, PATTERNS and REFLECTIONS. That’s what the true beauty of the photos is about. That’s what I really enjoy about them. Full screen is best…

We are still parked in a beautiful park-like setting at Elks Club #2167.

Yesterday my cousin Simone and her husband, Patrick, came to visit us. We enjoyed a nice six-hour time together having a nice meal at a restaurant and also visiting Simone’s daughter and her family who live nearby.

GEESE ON THE RIVER

DSC06968 (Copy)

You’ve heard that song, I’m sure, 99 bottles of beer on the wall?  I couldn’t believe it when I unloaded my camera and I had 99 pictures of geese. I managed to toss 53. Jim always offers to get me down to ten pictures, but, I tell him I intend to paint some day and I need models.

DSC06974 (Copy)

It was tough to pick photos because we are getting close to our limit on bytes. These geese look like they should be on the Christmas platter.

DSC06976 (Copy)

This one was just poking its head under the water for a morsel, but often they turn upside down, and I found myself laughing to see three butts in a row sticking out of the water.

DSC06977 (Copy)

I felt I learned a lot about geese observing them for most of the day while I sat on this gorgeous river bank and read my book with my camera close by.This is a mad goose, steaming through the water, head down, chasing a flock away from a particularly popular log so his bunch could move in and take a bath.

DSC06993 (Copy)

This is that same stance, this time a mother head down, challenging anyone to interfere with her goslings as she made her way through the crowd.

DSC07018 (Copy)

Later in the day, they moved onto the grass to feed on bugs and grasses. They feed in a group with an ever protective gander watching over all.

DSC06948 (Copy)

Actually, these mallards had the log first and got chased away by the geese.

DSC07010 (Copy)

I took a short walk along the river’s edge where bright flowers grow in the sandy soil.DSC06998 (Copy)

Folks, including me, appreciate the river on a hot Saturday afternoon, quiet and soothing.

DSC07029 (Copy)

Fishing, kayaking and canoeing are popular. I was grateful no one used a noisy skee-doo. It is quiet and beautiful here at the Elks Club where we will be parked until I fly to Las Vegas on the 5th. It was hot yesterday and the river is cooling.

DSC07030 (Copy)

I spotted this little turtle making a bee-line to the water. The minute I got close enough to take a picture, he stopped and hid from me. As soon as I walked away, he completed his journey.

DSC06943 (Copy)

From out of the woods came this mystery animal. Some type of rodent, I think.  At first, I thought it could be a baby beaver.

DSC06946 (Copy)

I got a good look at its tail. I remember beavers having a flat, rounded kind of fleshy tail. I looked up nutria and they have definite rodent, rat-like tails. This is a mystery animal. If anyone knows what it is, let me know.
