Littlefield, Texas – Day 2

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues.

The motorhome is still parked at the Waylon Jennings RV Park. I expect to leave here this coming Monday.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about one-half mile from the Waylon Jennings RV Park to Waymore’s Liquor Store. Waymore was Waylon Jennings’ nickname. You can read about this place by clicking this link…

Waylon’s younger brother James was not there, but I met Darla, James’ daughter and Waylon’s niece who was minding the store. Waymore’s is located on the corner of Hall Avenue and Waylon Jennings Boulevard. Waymore’s was once a gas station that has been converted into a drive-thru liquor store. What was once a double open-ended work bay, you can now drive-thru and buy your booze without getting out of your car. How convenient is that?

In a way, I felt a tad sad looking at Waylon’s memorabilia among all the booze. But in a way it reflects on his sometimes self-abusive lifestyle and his humble beginnings to become one of the most famous people on the planet. Like the above sign says…Waylon Jennings…No Ordinary Dude.

Espanola, NM – Day 2

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues.

The motorhome is now parked at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee #3695 in Espanola about 25 miles north of Santa Fe. I expect to be here for several days.

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about 18 miles to the town of Truchas, up from my current location of about 5,600 feet of elevation to about 8,200 feet. The locals tell me that in the 1960’s it was quite a hippie town. You can find out all about Truchas by clicking this Wikipedia informational link…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truchas,_New_Mexico

Not much going on in Truchas these days. I asked about a local mom and pop eatery (my favorite kind), nope…none. The nearest eatery is a fancy restaurant 11 miles down the hill. So, what’s there …you ask. Let me show you…

This is the main drag of Truchas…

Then there is the High Road Marketplacce…an artist’s co-op gallery…..

Here’s the website link for the gallery…

There’s also Tafoya’s Truchas General Store. According to the clerk it’s been there since 1915 with genuine adobe walls, wooden floors and large pickle jars…

Walking through a side door brings you to this jail cell…

Which was located right at the end of the bar. How convenient!!!

Across the street from the general store is a one-pump gas station that no longer pumps gas. At 11:30 AM, three amigos had the Mexican music playing loudly while they drank their beers…

I particularly liked Antonio’s beard…

As you leave town, this is the view to the southeast…

And the view to the southwest…

Enjoying interesting locations is another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!
