I’m An Ear-Witness To A Gang Shooting…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to be here a while hiding out from the cold, wet weather. Average temperatures in January are high 69.6, low 47.6. In February, high 73.8, low 50.1. As nice as Yuma is, I wouldn’t want to be here in August.  🙂

It was last Saturday night…11:30 PM according to my bedside clock. I had just returned to bed after a pee break during my sleep. Despite being a chilly night, I had my bedside window half-way open.

I heard the shots clearly. Pop-pop…pop.pop.pop, then an engine growl followed immediately by a loud boom. I remember, I thought to myself, …sounds like a gang-shooting! In about two-three minutes I heard the police sirens…and I just knew I was right.

Remember, I’m ex-military and have owned a few guns in my life. In addition, I’m an ex-quality control engineer and have a tenancy to pay attention to details.

The pops were pistol shots…louder than a .22 caliber and not as loud as a .50 caliber…probably in the .32 caliber range…there were five of them. The engine growl sounded like a large V-8 in a hurry to move on. The boom was a shotgun not as loud as a 12 gauge…probably a 20 gauge.

I remember telling Mary about the event during our Sunday morning telephone chat…adding the shots sounded about 1/4 (.250) to 1/2 (.500) mile distant. Google earth measures the distance as .328 miles.

The Yuma Police department asked anyone with info to call a case detective. I usually try to limit my interfaces with government agencies whenever possible. At Mary’s urging, I called Monday morning to offer my info. I hope in someway it aids the police in finding the culprits.

One of those six shots took the life of a 15-year-old high school boy who died on Wednesday.

What a sad event. A 15-year-old life wasted…for what?   😦

An even tragic statement to what is going on in our scenically beautiful country.

Recently I’ve been running blogs about my 2004 Central America trip. While here I’m intending to continue those postings while also alternating with Yuma area blogs.

Yesterday was mostly sunny and 70 degrees. Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 71 degrees.

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!
